Lynnie, I can see the employment evolution as well and this is a fav topic between me and the young man with whom I share a few minutes each week at the gas station as we "solve" global problems, lol. I have had people who asked to pave our drives, paint/repair/or demolish out outbuildings, sell us freezer meats, and of course the JWs but never an investment broker. I have a couple who send me calendars and literature and one whom I use who keeps calling and telling ME I need to make an appointment with his secretary, however.

The emphasis on building our local economy (and it's federally funded since we're Appalachian) seems to come to fruition mostly as hospitality jobs along the interstate, retail sales, and warehousing imported goods. Whoopie, I'd just as shuck keep the natural beauty of the place and hang my handmade quilts out on clotheslines for the flatlanders.

I keep thinking about those steps.... wondering if he was trying to impress you with his energy in climbing them, although if it had been me, I would probably have been impressed only with his arrogant ignorance and thus a guaranteed no-sale. Someone who pays no attention to signs and then behaves foolishly is not someone I want investing my funds.

Not many salesfolks come by in our neighborhood, unless they are school-aged and fundraising. It's been a good 20 years since JWs came, but during August's sultry days, the M's will go past in their masculine biking pairs. Our streets may be steep, but they are shady.

I don't blame anyone for trying to get to the front door, my house has a weird layout that people just don't know how to deal with.

THe scary stairs are on the left...I come and go through the garage, so do family and friends, but most folks feel weird going around to the sliding door at the 'back', actually, the other side, of the house, plus it's all snowy just now on that hill to the right. Maybe I'll get a pic of the steps to post, might be a good thing in case of a lawsuit ;~)

We've had a young kid from Edward Jones knock on our door a couple of times here. Surprised me, but these "brokers" are sort of like life insurance salesmen. They're judged on how much money they bring into the firm & they've got to get their clients from somewhere & people only have so many relatives.

Right now the only people that show up here are coming to
visit, thanks to the gate at the entrance.
I haven't had a salesman in all the years we've lived here.

My mom was the only person I ever knew that actually
enjoyed visits from JHW, except those that showed up at
her door on Sunday morning when she was headed to church.
She loved sharing her faith with them, Southern Baptist Lady to the core.

Thanks for reminding me what I have to look forward to when I move back to the city.:0(
