I would suggest using an old email address for friendster and reserve the new one for close friends and work. I use yahoo for all things internet, and a private domain account for friends, work, and school. You still have to weed thru your junk box to see the messages people send you, but imo, half the stuff from there is junk anyway: I find it really annoying that after I registered with myspace, I get a lot of messages from guys saying "hey whats up your hot send me an IM" even though I have on my profile that I am married and not looking for relationships. Spam? WTF?

Anyway, I don't have specific experience with friendster, but that's my advice ;)

I do have a 'fake' hotmail address that I use when I buy stuff online or sign up to forums. Everyone should have one.

Now that I am married I don't do the hooking up stuff. But when I did, it was done the old fashioned way: pretend to be super drunk at a college bar. Good times good times.

I have a friend who uses some match.com type services and has had some pretty weird dates. I thought they sounded wickedly fun, but I guess not when you really are looking for a relationship.

Yeah, I have a coupla yahoo addresses for just such purposes. Another concern is if these sites are putting a lot of spyware on my computer--although at home at least I've got a lot of protections. I may just go for it. It can't be any worse than Yahoo groups.

I'd be hesistant to respond to someone who doesn't know the difference between "you're" and "your" too ;) For a while I was on a certain site where I would occasionally get a message from eastern Europe along the lines of "I just looked at your profile and we have a lot in common!" My responses of "Great! What part of my profile did you like?" got the expected silence.

Ugh. People. Would you believe I actually started getting spam in the comments on my blogs?

I hope it doesn't require a photo. I don't have anything newer than the Hoover administration. (That freakish date some years ago when I actually got out the vacuum cleaner and administered it to the carpets.

Oops. I may have not meant the meaning of hooking up that I ya'll think I did. I meant just connecting to people with similar interests.

Does "hooking up" really, generally universally mean...um...you know....? I did run into trouble by using that term at a party and thought it was just a fluke. (Although the look of terror was memorable.)

Ah yes, the term 'hooking up' especially with Friendster is usually reserved for someone who is more than a friend.

Did you google it? There are a few articles on it. You do need to post a photo. I guess it is turning into more of a casual dating source than making actual friends.

I have nothing against FWB really. These sites just seem to be spread so thin I couldn't imagine anyone finding friends anyway. I did post a barely-recognizable picture of myself.

So I have one "friend" on the site--the guy who invited me. The little image thingies show when they were last on. He hasn't been on in two weeks. Ironic wouldn't you say?
