plant with small orange fruit - no photo

Hi. I live in zone 5, Michigan. Someone asked me to id a plant with small orange fruit about the size of a ground cherry, but I have no idea what it is. Unfortunately I haven't had time to scan the picture they gave me. Maybe the description might ring a bell for one of you?

This annual plant has large tear-drop shaped opposite leaves. The stem of the plant looks similar to a sunflower stem. The orange fruit forms in opposite pairs right above where the leaf petiole meets the stem. The base of the fruit attaches to the stem of the plant. The fruit does not have a husk.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?
