It grows quite rapidly from seeds, especially if winter sown. Orange flower are becoming quite the gardening trend and there are a number of seed companies that offer it. You can also look for it under the common name of wild dagga......it has some slightly euphoric properties if ingested or smoked, so there's quite an undergound seed exchange for this plant :-) And hummingbirds love it!

Actually this property has been in my family for 35years or more I inherited back in 2001 when my dad died. I would never be able to purchase a piece of land like that at the price it would sell for. The house I grew up in which my little brother has is across the street from it. I am only 28 an currently have a house 4 miles away that I own. So there is no set plans on the house this is just my property. Years and years away if any. There are only 13 other houses and it is a private neighborhood. All the houses are built on stilts around the natural florida habitat or wetlands. This would be a requirement if I ever do get to put a house on it. But in the mean time if you have seen the blog then you can see I am a man that fears no seed or plant challenge. So I am doing my homework, reading up on orchids and growing new babies, talking to neighbors and I really want to try to repopulate the neighborhood. I took a little stroll through the neighborhood today and spotted at least 5 other trees from the street that had colonies growing on them. So I am very excited about doing this I love challenges so stay tuned and I will keep you all updated on my future endeavors. Here is a partial shot of the property The Live Oaks must be over 100 years old or more. These trees are all over the neighborhood so there is lots of good spots for the orchids to grow. And the other shot is one of the other colonies I saw today. It has almost wrapped around the trees limb completely. I purchased it as P. Pungens 'baby blue' (you know the tags, "blue is cool blue is cool blue is cool blue is cool blue is cool"). It was only after a year or two that I noticed its branches were weeping. I think I planted it Nov 2014, but maybe Nov 2015. I do remember when purchasing it, it was different (I looked at every single one they had, probably over 200) but weeping never crossed my mind even though in thinking back I remember it looking about what it currently looks like. When I compared it to my 7 or so other P. Pungens 'baby blue', it was clearly different. I guess it would be considered a seedling with a mutation (or a mutated seedling?) ? The baby blue are grown from seed.

Hi Andrew and Diana, Andrew, I should stop buying plants too, but I just can't seem to! LOL The thing about the Jungle Jack plants at our various Lowe's is that until yesterday, I had only ever seen for sale the 3 varieties that I mentioned at the top of this post. To see 'Elsie' AND 'Inca Gold' on that table was just too much--my wallet practically flew out of my pocket by itself. Diana: unfortunately, no writing on the trunk. These plants are identified by the small white tab stuck in the soil, like the one in my pic. Because JJ's potting medium is so loose and the plants get shuffled around so much, I think many of the ID tabs simply fall out. As a matter of fact, at one of the Lowe's I visited, the dozen plants for sale there had been moved inside after obviously having been devastated by whiteflies; adding insult to injury, many of the plants looked as though they'd been toppled and sloppily re-potted--at least half of those plants were missing the ID tab. I bought one of these plants, not more than 15 inches tall with a whopping 6 tips--and it has an inflo, so we'll find out what it is yet this season. I'll post a pic of 'Mystery JJ Plumie #2" in this thread soon. I believe you're a friend of John's, so you would know better than me, but I would tend to think that John would not send out noIDs to the FL wholesaler. Perhaps if irun from St. Pete reads this thread, irun can tell me the name of the wholesaler--no one at my store could tell me. At any rate, it's all for fun. I will be sure to post pics of all the new plants when they bloom--hopefully the flower will make the mystery plants' identities obvious! In the meantime: JJ plant w/ slender, upright growth habit, and pointed (not rounded) leaves? Anyone...anyone?? I'll entertain guesses!
