One is organic, one is not. ;-) I see nothing wrong, per se, with the synthetic TB with iron, but in the long run the Organic Choice is going to do a better job. Organics feed more gently so don't expect the fast greenup, but feed for much longer. Most of us will tell you they ultimately feed better, build organic material in your soil (which the bacteria and worms quite like), and are perhaps a bit better for the environment. Full disclosure: I'm an organic gardener and don't use much that doesn't meet that standard on my lawn and gardens. There's a lot of information over on the Organic Lawn Forum you might want to glance at, if you have the time.

Scotts Organic Choice Lawn Food packs less N than your typical fertilizer. It does, but goes down at a higher rate. For winterization, I used 22 lbs of Scott's Winterizer (or whatever they're now calling it) at around 30-3-10 or so. For organic feeding (the rest of the year), I use soybean meal at around 7-1-2 or so. The difference being that I use 90 lbs of soybean meal at a shot. Your listing--assuming 1 lb of actual N per thousand square feet per application, or 5 lbs N total for the year--isn't too much, particularly for very new KBG. New grass, like adolescents, eats a lot. I would use pure pre-M in March instead of the fertilizer mix and shift the dates a bit: March 15: Pre-M with no fertilizer April 1-15 (or so): After the second mow, fertilize (synthetic or organic). May 20-31 (or so): Five to six weeks after the first fertilization, fertilize again (organic). That won't force green-up of the lawn too early, and the winterizer you put down this year will be working next March anyway.

Even though both are headquartered in the south, North Carolina and Georgia, it is winter and you do not stock "stuff" that is going to sit on the shelves. So since the majority of their stores this product would not move none can carry it, even though there are areas of the USA where people still grow plants.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Lou, years ago the right side of his lot was a dirt road/service easement used by the county. They were no longer using it and the previous owner purchased from the county. Thats why the back right side is shaped like that. morph, Im not sure about monthly feedings, I think the cost would be way to high. S.A. typically requires, for optimum results 4-6 lbs of N per year for full sun areas. Do you use milogantie along with grains? rcnaylor, great idea. that would be a big job for an acre. rose, funny you said that. I was talking to him last night and mentioned the same thing about buy grains in bulk and possible saving some money. He was all for it.
