Young Blueberry Growth Expectations

A newbie question - I planted 4 northern highbush (Jersey, Duke, Blueray, and Bluecrop) in April of this year, and have had what I feel is mixed success so far.

The 3 year-old plants arrived through the mail (bareroot), and I set them in the ground in a mixture of peat and garden soil. I added garden sulful to keep the pH low, fertilized with MirAcid, and watered with vinegar when help was needed to keep the pH below 6.

The plants did leaf out and set a few pieces of fruit (three or four), but I wasn't expecting anything in Year 1 so I wasn't disappointed. However, I was disappointed with a lack of new cane growth (only one cane from all the plants). In addition, now that the fruit buds are visible, two plants look robust (many buds), but the other two not so much.

Am I over-reacting here? Should I give them another year before I start to mettle? If there are any barometers that would be a good proxy for young plants, I'd be happy for the advice.

Thanks!

Rich
