mowing should be fine. just don't let the grass discharged from the mower clump up on the lawn. If it does then use your bagging attachment. Also if you had weed troubles last summer you might but some pre-emergent down now too after the mow.

I'm cutting mine 3 times a week with a very sharp rotary mower.....my reel mower needs adjusting and I just don't have time to do it right now. However, mine is a brand new (April) Tifway 419 lawn, and it's pretty bumpy. So, I'm cutting at a little over 2 inches. It looks awesome; like dark green thick lush carpet. I think Tifway looks super at the higher mowing heights, and I'm glad, because my yard is so bumpy that I couldn't mow it down tight even with a reel roller on my McLane. But, it's sure saving on watering, keeping that ground shaded, and once I got the crabgrass under control, it's basically disappeared. So far, I'm a big fan of the higher mowing heights! You have to let it dry out some before you can mow it. See what happens when you water once a day for 10 minutes. The rooted bermuda should be fine on once a day for the next 3 days. The soil will dry some and allow you to mow then. Once you've mowed, put out some cat food or tuna cans and time how long it takes to fill them. That will be your new watering time from now on. That will put down a full inch of water all at once. Then watch the new grass for signs of wilting. It may wilt within 3 or 4 days. As soon as you see it wilt anywhere, apply about 1/2 a can and watch it. If it goes a full week without wilting, then go for the full inch next time. The idea is to develop deep roots to allow you to go for a week or longer before watering again. Where do you live?

Seed heads are why people sometimes have to mow their bermuda 2x-3x per week. Your lawn is very normal. Your version of the correct mowing height is at the far upper end of being practical. That height is used because most rotary mowers can't go any lower, but if you had a reel type mower, 1/2 to 3/4 inch would be better. When bermuda is kept very low it takes on a different growth habit and becomes more dense. If you ever visit a golf course, look at the greens and how the grass stems grow sideways with the blades coming off the stem. Most residential bermuda lawns have vertical stems.
