Paw paw flower buds visible in autumn?

Hello,

I have a Susquehanna paw paw that was planted in spring 2005. It has not yet flowered. Today I was examining the branches, and saw several of next year's leaf buds, as I have in the past. However, today I noticed that there are a handful of buds that look very different than the rest. The look sort of bulbous, rather than thin and pointy like the rest of the buds. Am I correct in guessing that these are flower buds? I have never heard this mentioned, but I can't think of what else they could be.

Unfortunately, my other two are younger and don't have any of these kinds of buds. Hopefully I can find another source of pollen in the spring if I do indeed get flowers.

Alex
