Well my Resident has moved in...but we right now have had some chilly mornings..wonder if he'll stay... ? I have noticed from other areas that have posted about hummers they have more than one that can feed at a feeder...sure wish they'd get along here...guess it's like people..not too many get along in the neighborhood...LOL. Christy sorry to hear you haven't seen any yet... The cheapest way to get rid of a cat is to do something to make it remember your yard as a no-go zone. In other words, scare the crao out of it. I had this orange cat stalking around in my yard, trying to catch my birds. One day I looked out, saw the cat in the bushes between my deck and the lawn, so I grabbed an air horn, and slowly sneaked up behind it, and blasted the air horn right behind hit. I've never seen a cat jump so high in my life, and it ran, and ran, and ran, and I've never seen it again. I guess I traumatized it! Joe

I love hummingbirds! I put my first feeder up sometime in April & within an hour already had a hummer there eating. I have 4 feeders out & any time of the day you can go out & at least 2 or 3 are at each feeder; at sunrise & sunset the feeders are packed w/ at least 5-7 or more hovering around each feeder waiting their turn! I have to refill my feeders every 2-3 days so my "nectar" doesn't have a chance to go bad. I will however disagree w/ some of the given advice. I'm not saying I'm right, but my hummingbirds like what I do. I make up a 3 1/2 qt. juice container of "nectar" at a time. I put 2 cups of sugar in 1 quart of water (so 7 cups to my 3 1/2 qt. container)... I've read some agruments about this on here, but again, my HB's seem to like it & keep coming back. I never boil the water, I mix the sugar w/ cold water & shake the container vigorously before filling each feeder. Mine is stored in the fridge & doesn't last more than a week. I don't notice any difference between warm/cold feeders when I put them out, so they will drink the cold nectar (I've read where some ppl warm it up before putting it in the feeder). I guess you mean the sunflower hearts? I use them instead of regular sunflower that way I don't have hulls everywhere. I think I've figured out who's scat it was I also found some around the dog food bowl (outside) there were no tracks other than the dog and birds. I know the bluejays often eat the dog food, so I think it's bluejay poop. :)
