You can't do anything right now because your grass is to tender. Besides even if your grass was mature it is too late in the year (too hot) to use post-emergence.

I have used Scotts Step II thru out the summer here in eastern PA as a spot treatment and never had a problem. How long before the new grass can withstand it OR what do you think I could do.

Usually you shouldn't apply anything until several mowings have passed. I usually take what the bag recommends and increase it a bit just to be sure. If it has no recommendations, I usually choose five mowings until I'll apply it.

That's going overboard, but I like knowing that my grass is strong enough to withstand the onslaught.

In your other thread on the same question, I think it was pointed out that you need to wait until you've mowed the lawn 3 or 4 times before applying weed killer to it.

I would also suggest that you check the directions on the bag to see whether they say anything about temperatures. And keep in mind that even if you have spread Scotts II in the past without a problem, you were spreading that on an established lawn. This time, you have a very immature lawn.

I think your best approach is to hand pull until you've mowed at least 3 times. The Scotts site says that you should not apply when the temperatures are above 90. If it were my lawn, I wouldn't apply until the temperature dropped below 85.

Yes, I generally apply to mosit grass when temps are in the low eighties. I'll ignore the clover until the grass has been mowed 3 times. Thanks!
