Has fruitnut aroused anyone else's interest in the Santa Fe blueberry? I know Shawn follows some discussions on this forum so I am using it to influence him to add Santa Fe blueberries to his website, if we can arouse enough interest for him to consider it. He added 273 new items in the last 18 months, unfortunately a lot of what I want is sold out. He still has sweetcrisp but with people ordering 20-50 at a time? I am still working on fruitnut's top 20 list but it may take 20 nurseries to get them all.

I suspect you realize Santa Fe doesn't make my top 20. It is just a sweet, mushy blueberry. I haven't bought one since 2004 and don't plan to buy another. Sweetcrisp is just too much better eating. And the two ripen about the same time for me.

You got a good point Fruitnut, I havent tasted any fruit yet but the 2 Sweetcrisp I got from JF&E looking nothing like the ones from FHN. They are still small so its hard to look at the growth pattern to tell but the leafs are very different. The shape, color and serrated edges are nothing like my other sweetcrisp. I actually had to send them pics of there plants and the ones from JF&E. They determined that they were not the same variety.

DO NOT BUY FROM FLORIDA HILL NURSERY. I ordered 10 blackberry plants from them, 8 of which arrived virtually dead. Their refund policy on their website says, and I quote "Sometimes plants don’t survive and we here at Florida Hill Nursery understand that. If within a 30-day time period from the point of delivery your plants don’t survive use our contact form to get in touch with us*.For a full refund return the plants to the address listed below. Once the plants have been shipped back to us simply use our contact form to send us the delivery confirmation. Return the plants to:FHN Refund Department P.O. Box 530318 Debary, FL 32753* " I tried contacting them multiple timess via their contact page, email, and phone. They are completely unresponsive. A very bad experience, and loss of about $70.00.

There are many good mail order nurseries out there, the one mentioned is not exactly at the top of the list. Go to Dave's Garden, Garden Watchdog and check out what other people have to say about various other nurseries. Yes , the plants will come boxed. 30 plants would probably require several boxes, but they would not be individually boxed. Most of the better mail order nurseries are quite good at packing olants for shipping.

This is an old thread, but...I ordered from Spring Hill last year, before I knew that this website and Garden Watch Dog existed. I actually thought they were fine...but that was also my first (and to this point, only) time ordering plants through the mail. A couple of things I ordered were missing, but I called and told them the day I received my shipment, and they sent the missing plants right out. Everything looked healthy and did just fine last summer...I ordered a passion flower vine from them and was astounded at how quickly it grew and how healthy it was. Maybe I just got lucky!

hey bamboo and fruitnut, do u have any recommendations on rabbiteyes for zone 9. i currently have brightwell, woodard, beckyblue, powderblue and bluegem. ive only tasted the powderblue once and thought it was tasty. im planning on getting tiftblue, austin and climax also. any thoughts on these varities? also whats the verdict on bluecrisp? i know fruitnut has a couple of these.

I have Brightwell, Powder blue and Tiff blue and they are pretty good though seedier. I like that it extends the season for fresh berries. Here I am right on the knifes edge as far as getting enough chill hours for them. In warm years the fruit is very sparse but the last 3 years have been cold and they have bloomed great.

I'll have my first Bluecrisp fruit this spring. So will be reporting in about 6 months. Bamboo has called them very crisp but not as sweet as Sweetcrisp. I'll also, hopefully, have the first rabbiteye fruit next spring/summer. But it will only be a little Climax.

Fruitnut,

You are growing the climax in a pot as well I assume? The rabbiteye BB have a huge root system compared to the SHB....that does not cause any problems?

Fruitnut I realise Santa Fe doesn't make your top twenty and I may have to give up trying to get it, short of buying you out. An impossibility at present. Currently working on your list of nectarines and other fruit trees. My Sweetcrisp hasn't shown much/any growth.

My Climax is in a pot but only for a year since being moved. So don't expect any problem for a while. Unless it's a lot better than I expect, it'll probably not be around long. I've got much better fruit in summer.
