soil remediation for next years tree holes??

planning to add about 30 trees next year in the spring. making the holes now.

Learned a few years ago to have my farmer with the bobcat drill the holes in the fall as the bobcat leaves ruts (and gets stuck) if he does it in the spring.

Farmer only has a 12" auger so I have him drill a 36" deep hole which I widen into a bowl shape by cutting away the edges with a shovel and letting the material fall into the hole. I'm doing that now so the material in the holes is settled by spring.

Heres the question: The soil is several inches of nice black topsoil over a sandy clay. When I plant next spring (bare root trees) does it matter if the soil around the trees is predominately the sandy clay with some top soil in the mix? I will be mulching the trees with wood chips and watering them as needed.

as always thanks for any help.

had my best year with my trees this year largely due to the excellent advice I find here.
