Spark Plug Boot Won't Stay on a Lawn-Boy Mower

I have a 1998 Lawn-Boy Silver Pro 21" walk behind mower (Model #10323---8900001 and all of a sudden the black rubber spark plug boot attached to a rubber tube constantly falls off the spark plug after about 2-3 minutes of running. The spark plug is located directly in the front of this mower.

Many times after going under bushes with the mower the rubber boot would come off and I could always reattach the rubber boot to the plug, but I guess this has now happened to many times and has now some how loosened the rubber boot permanently.

Rather than take this in the shop for a probably expensive repair (any guess-estimates here on how much $ ???), I have an idea and would like to know if this idea following would work?

Can I reattach the rubber boot to the spark plug by using one of those round, silver, metal, screw-type hose clamps I bought in the plumbing department at Home Depot?

Any other ideas appreciated??? Thanks. Al
