Weeds in my Bermuda Bible lawn

I have been following the Bermuda Bible to a T, and have not treated for weeds at all this year.

1) The closest St Augustine lawn is a few blocks away

2) My neighbor is a foreclosure with a weed infested nightmare of a lawn

This leads me to believe this is a weed, and not St Augustine.

Want to get rid of it!

Looks like crabgrass, not St. Augustine. That's all I got.

Thanks for that bit of info. After googling, it looks like you may be right. I guess just a spray bottle so I can spot treat would be good enough.

Any help with this? I sprayed it a few weeks ago with ortho weed b gon for southern lawns (I highly recommend it) and it started wilting within 24 hours. However, there was so much of it that it will definitely require a 2nd application. It hadn't rained in awhile and the weeds that were left were starting to wilt. It poured down rain all day yesterday and that definitely gave this weed a second wind. The pictures I posted are mild compared to how it is in some parts of my yards. My grass looks great besides this. One small fact in case this helps with the identification. The one thing I noticed is this weed started growing weeks after other weeds. It required a higher temperature to "wake up" then most other weeds. Any help would be appreciated.

No thoughts on that from me. If you think organics is pricy and time consuming, then you are reading the wrong guidance. I do it because I am cheap and lazy. Oh and it works great!! You may have seen my favorite alfalfa picture but here it is again... Most people seem to think organic fertilizer costs 10x more than chemical fertilizer. The cost for Scott's fertilizer is about $2.50 per 1,000 square feet. For alfalfa pellets, at an application rate of 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet and a cost of $12.50 per bag, that comes to $5.00 per 1,000 square feet. So the cost is really in the same ballpark either way. With chemicals many people make mistakes which kills all or parts of the lawn. You almost can't make a mistake like that with bermuda, but it happens with other lawns. People always wonder if they fertilize one day and it rains heavily the next, do they need to fertilize again?? With organic the answer is always, "no." With chemicals, who knows? You probably do, but do you want to risk overdosing? With a chemical only approach, eventually you will exhaust the microbes in the soil and you will get on what we call a see-saw. You will add more and more fertilizer trying to get results and the grass will actually perform worse. ...aaaaaannnnd then it finally greens and thickens up. That never happens with organics. If you are not willing to go all the way into an organic program, I would highly recommend at least one dose a year of at least 1/2 rate of 10 pounds per 1,000 square feet. That is the same cost as the chemical. You can apply at the same time as the chemical if you like. The reason would be to keep your soil microbes from becoming exhausted. They need food. How often they need the food and under what circumstances we don't really know, but once a year is a good start.

The first of a few photos to come is attached. I mowed about 24 hours before these photos were taken. Before mowing, I snipped several dozen tall seed heads off the dallisgrass to prevent broadcasting the seeds. During mowing, I probably mulched another dozen or so that I had missed. What's in the lawn now are likely younger than 24 hours old. What I noticed last summer--my first season in the house--was that the seeds became apparent, it seems, only when the dallisgrass stalk shot higher than a couple of inches tall. These are growing prostrate, making the ability to trim them before mowing problematic. I don't think these seed heads are necessarily unusual. I just think the timing of my first nitrogen application a week or so before their sudden (and prolific) emergence may be more than just a coincidence.

Thank you so much rdaystrom .... looking at the link and reading about it some more, I'm almost certain my lawn is infested with Dichondra and/or maybe combination of both Dichondra and Dollarweed. Like you said, 2-4-D is what I should get and apply (although suggestion to apply is 'Late Spring" and we have Winter here in Georgia, I still may try some application to see the reaction) . What did you use for pre emergence control? Did your timing coincide with the forsythia bloom?

Did not do a pre-emergent. Was going to see how well the bermuda would crowd out weeds. Now I know.

I was too late to do a pre-emergent when I discovered the bermuda bible. So now I'm stuck with a weedy lawn?

I guess I'll just get a weed killer product at Lowe's and spot treat rather than do any weed and feed.

Next year I'll be sure to do pre emergent. I discovered Bermuda Bible in late March ish and thought it was too late for a pre emergent.

Try the weed be gone with crabgrass control.

Or there is an Image product that is for crabrass, too. Comes in packets that you mix into a gallon sprayer.

Had good luck with both. Just make sure temps are under 85 if you are going to broadcast spray.

Got the Image powder to try tonight. Thanks! Hoping it doesn't yellow the bermuda too much.

Just pay attention to the temperature, and spot spray like you said above.

And you don't have to absolutely drench the weed either. Spray it enough to wet the leaves good. Not dripping or anything.

Well it poured in the early morning after I applied Image, but it seems to be working fine (not forecast). Hate that only now I can see where I missed but the product says don't use again within 1 year.

Other than not getting a preemergent down, following the bermuda bible has my yard going nuts. I really need to raise the height of my rotary or mow more often. It's just growing too fast so I reveal too much yellow on a every 4 day schedule.

You coud try Celsius. It's less temp sensitive. I used some last week and it has stunned my 419 a little. Not as bad as Image though. I applied the middle ratio. It did work on the creeping charlie and other weeds.
