The first thing you have to do is get the engine off the mower. The drive pulley must be removed because it won't fit through the opening in the mounting plate. Most likely the seal 'popped out' and is still in good condition. According to the book, the crankcase is supposed to be opened to properly replace or re-seat a seal, but I remember others posting on here that they did it without cracking the case. You can download the 'E' engine shop manual on the Lawn-Boy site which goes into detail. If the seal is only partially out, you may be able to re-seat it by using a seating tool (piece of pipe) over the crankshaft and pressing/hammering it back into place. This is why you have to get the engine off the mounting plate, to access the seal area, remove or replace a seal and to slip the tool down the crankshaft.

Roflmao ! I had a customer drop off a similar 10682 2007 model lawn Boy this afternoon . He stated he picked it up @ his local junk yard for free , surprisingly since it was very clean . He said he drained the fuel and oil and refilled along with a new plug , but it would not start . I checked the compression , which was within spec for this last model yr Tecumseh engine . I noticed the air filter and housing missing so assumed he had played with the carb , however when I dropped the float bowl it needed a good cleaning . After servicing the carb attempted to start the engine , Zippo . I checked for spark , again Zippo ! I then noticed the grass bagger was removed and the mulch plug was on . I inspected for the bag interlock sensor green ground wire and it was coiled up under the recoil shroud (plugged in ). I unplugged the wire and lit up the little green monster 6.5 hp 4 Cycle . I noticed a little stumble in the idle so I added a little Seafoam to the fuel tank and let it run for 20 minutes and it smoothed right out . I thought it idled a little high but it should be good when the customer replaces the air filter . I called the customer who advised if he basket case was dead to just keep it for parts . I told him it was ready for pick up however the blade could use a sharpening , which he green lighted . The Moral of this Story is , I almost had a free lawn Boy , however most likely have a happier potential repeat customer in the future ! lol.

I tried disconnecting the wires and still no spark. Just about ordered a new coil and I decided to clean coil and flywheel and readjust gap. It worked. I had not cut he grass in nine weeks due to drought conditions here.had I must have given it enough time to rust up. I have had several Lawn Boys with spark issues, especilly the commercial grade 6.5 Silver Series mowers. I never recall having trouble with BRIGGS COILS. THANKS FOR THE HELP.

I have checked the coil several times and it always is putting out a strong spark when it want start.When I pull the plug out and spin the engine good and hard then put the plug back in it will start right up.I have ruled out flooding as a problem so why would spinning the engine with the plug out seem to fix it?
