Harvested my entire Cox's Orange Pippin crop

All ONE of them. After tarping and blanketing it for the Easter frost, watering it with my old spring water, footies and then baggies, the forty or so apples gradually dwindled to three. And then there was one. The other two were very mushy. But the survivor was big, firm, beautifully colored and shaped. I triumphantly carried it up to the house and wanted to share it with my wife, who, after expressing serious doubts about the earlier frost effort, would be won over by the rare, delicate flavor. Wasn't to be. Bland and strangely discolored inside. I just read a post about "water core" and after tasting the pallid thing I tossed it into the compost, mumbled some expletives about the bad drought/hot weather, and turned on the tv.
