Older sears mower won't start / stay running
Comments (3)Saxman, Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately after a week of being deathly sick (OK not quite dealthly - but sick enough I didn't feel like screwing with the mower) I pulled it apart last night and unfortunately it has no brass bolt. Carb bottom is black plastic, main orifice appears to be white / yellow plastic. Couple springs. Did carb clean stuff out and wire tie wired some openings, but no luck. Main jet orifice seems to have a black rubber gasket on it. Doesn't look great - but should be good enough to seal. Any other ideas? .010 was my original guess when I had the magneto off a couple weeks ago so that should be OK. Thanks. Eric...See MoreTroy-Bilt 4-Cycle Trimmer Won't Cold Start But Runs Amazing
Comments (6)You left gas in the carb for long time, even you vitually inspect the internal of the carb, it might not be good enough. Get SeaFoam and run a tankful and see what happen since you can somehow start it. If you are going to leave gas in the trimmer for storage, use Stabil from now on. The way I store stuff is to empty the tank, run it dry, close the choke, prime the bulb, hold full throttle and start it and let it run to stop, and keep pulling while holding full throttle. This should pull all the gas out of the carb. THis work only on handheld trimmer etc....See MoreTroy-bilt Pony Tiller won't start
Comments (3)You must clean the carburator, grasshoppa... Gotta love spray carb cleaner, Remove the bowl, clean the bowl, blow up into the stem that you took the bowl nut out of and drain some fuel through to ensure all the old stuff is out.Make sure the float is working freely. Next blow through the passages in the bowl nut and re-assemble. Usually that does it without taking more extrordinary measures. Keep the carb cleaner off the rubber bowl seal....See MoreTroy-Bilt RZT 42 wouldn't turn over. Then did, now won't.
Comments (3)As suggested above need to know what engine? My CC RTZ42 has a cheap briggs on it and alot of them now have Kohlers. I would you take the spark plug back out and see if it turns over while watching the spark plug hole in the engine head. Do you see liquid gas coming out? (If yes then the carb. float is sticking/leaking and letting gas into the combustion chamber)Simple fix remove carb and clean it or at worse change the needle and seat if the float not leaking). If you don't see no gas spraying out then I would look at all the switches, this includes the elect blade clutch switch (make sure it pushed in)the steer handles (pushed all the way out so the activate the switches that will keep the engine from starting, the brake is set (switch has to activate with brake set for engine to start, and last the seat switch (your butt has to be in the seat for the switch to be activated. If it still don't crank then I would check the cables from the battery to the starter and from battery to ground. if thats OK, then I would get me a multimeter and start checking all the safety switches mentioned above (they are on and off switches very easy to check, either they alowing current or not). If it still don't start I would find somebody that's willing to look at it. some things I would do I'm sure others will have more suggestions....See More- 13 years ago
