dead Microbes - How do you Know?

Hello all,

I have made several post over the last few months concerning my bermuda lawn. The post covered low ph and problems from overseeding with perennial rye.

My lawn looks terrible this year but in years past it was praised. I believe it will largely recover this year if I do what's needed.

Over the years I have used 34-0-0 at the recommended application rate,SMDA(?)to spot treat crabgrass and goose grass and I've used Ortho weed b gone for weeds. With the occasional exception I've used benefin as a pre m.

This year so far I have used benefin and Demension for pre M and I sprayed 1 application of Image to kill the rye (the rye won) and I put out as much lime as you can at one time.

Are the microbes dead in my lawn?

I've read that putting sugar out can improve the microbes.

I've read the long posting on the use of synthetic fertilizer and soil microbes so there is no need to go round and round with that again.

How do you know the if the soil is dead?

Sorry for the length of the post and thank you.

Tim
