Comments (31)rbastedo Well said, and I think the point the "feel good" crowd in yellow and green are missing is they leave the recommendation to all readers that one has to buy the same machine they did, or they are being a fool. Many, I suspect most, just can't afford the higher priced machines. And, if they have to replace their Craftsman in 10 years, so what, they again have a new tractor. In addition to my 1993 GT6000, still running strong with all original equipment (plus new belts and oil) I have a 2005 DYT4000, purchased for $1,039. It is a great mower and I'd strongly recommend to anyone on a budget to look for an end of the year "sale" at Sears to get a great deal. As I may have said earlier in this thread, I like the bright red color too....See MoreTaking Craftsman lawn tractor back to Sears...
Comments (12)There was a time when Sear had a reputation for good products and customer service. Unfortunately that time is long past. I purchased 2 sets of T handle Craftsman allen wrenches last November on "Black Friday." When I got home I found that the metric set was the ball end type. Oh well, not worth a 75 mile round trip to return them. So a few weeks ago I finally had need to use one of the metric wrenches. The ball end did not engage the set screw sufficiently, rounded off and also messed up the screw. The next time I happened to travel to Goldsboro, NC I took the set with me and stopped at Sears. I wanted to exchange the ball end set for the standard set (which lists for $5 less). The ball end set was on sale and as I did not have a receipt (who keeps a receipt for Craftsman Guaranteed Forever tools???) they proposed to charge me $1 and change to exchange the more expensive set of the cheaper set! Needless to say I made them give me a new ball end set. I will keep them in the car and next time I am near Sears I will see if the items are at regular price. Just wait till K-Mart-Sears decides to declare Chapter 11 again and nullify the Craftsman guarantee. What a class action law suit that will make :-) Ken...See MoreNeed advice on selling my Craftsman tractor.
Comments (9)jtmacc, I HIGHLY recommend you sell it on either craigslist or ebay. You will reach a thousand times the number of interested buyers compared to posting a flyer in your local grocery store. The key to selling an item online is having multiple clear photos, and a long, detailed description. People shouldn't have to make any guesses after reading your description. Tell all about it, why you bought it in the first place, the things you like about it, why you're selling it, etc. I can tell you that the bagger is a nice feature, but you won't make any money by including it. People shopping for a used mower (especially plain ones) are interested in buying a solid mower that runs good and cuts grass nicely. Attachments are a nice bonus, but if it's down to two tractors, one with 100 hours, and one with 300 hours plus a bagger, they'll probably go with the newer one. The only way to recoup some of that cash for the bagger is to sell it separately. You said you need to sell it right now, but this is a really bad time to sell a mower. If you can hang onto it until the spring (especially March and April, when the tax returns are flowing in), you'll do a lot better, probably by up to 50% more! Good luck!...See Moreewalk
