top of round wooden slat table

hi, im new here and would love to hear some of your ideas for an old table.

ive been saving the top of our wooden slat table for a few years, wanting to do something with it. its about 4 ft. diameter. i was thinking of a giant faux clock on the wall, and i still like that idea. i have a giant bare space on the wall on the deck where our twig decoration finially rotted and died.

that is the space i would like to use it in, or i am open to any suggestions. thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum Lizzie, you'll have a wonderful time in here. I think your idea of a clock is fantastic. You can do a search on the forum home page and see what others have done for wall hangings.

You know, maybe they did come from BB&B. I just remember DH found them and then showed them to me. BB&B is probably where we got ours. The colors are fairly bright -- it makes me think of Fiestaware. Get them and see if you like them.

Thank you all so much for your sweet comments. It is much appreciated. I'll post more pics of the room after the couch is delivered. I'm hoping the couch makes a dramatic change. We've been shopping for a couch since the end of August (actually two couches, we also purchased a leather recliner couch for the family room as well) Finally, after getting a new rug for the family room and a new rug for the living room, picking new couches suddenly became much easier.

I have a future project in mind along the same lines:) I have the table rounds from those decorator tables,and I really wanted to make a clock face for the wall inside my home. I thought I'd print out some numbers and decoupage them onto the table top,then antique it. I'd love to see what you make,post a pic when finished!

hi kudz..., i think we are thinking along the sme lines exactly. i will post a pic, you too eh! i dont know when ill get to do mine though, so dont hold your breath for a pic, lol.

But would the motors you can buy for clocks be powerful enough to drive that big set of hands? I have a table round that I've wanted to do the same with.....

I have the perfect idea, which you could also mix with the clock idea. I own an authentic one, but have played with the idea of making another one on my own (my own design).

You could paint an Amish hex sign. They are approximately 4-7 feet in diameter, so that is perfect. Go to www.google.com --> select images, and do a search for "Amish Hex Sign" and the images reveal themselves. In case you didn't already know, these signs are put on the sides of the Amish barns to ward off evil spirits.

Sorry, I'm from an area populized w/ lots of Amish (Southern Maryland).

actually, for mine, i was just thinking of a faux clock, not one that really worked. so i would just decopauge or stencil the hands and the numbers and little minute ticks on. i would fashion it like an old fashioned clock, and distress it and make the edges dark and all that. i have the picture in my head, its just actually doing it now.
