Found a Giant Frog!!

Went to a flea market on Sunday .Found this Giant Frog for $5.00.He needs a little paint touch up but I love him.

He's so cute!! I love frogs! Have you thought about mosaic? I've seen some frogs done with mosaic.

He's so cute and looks like he's guarding the BB's :-).
Maybe he's hoping they turn into princess frogs?

I too am beginning to wonder if what Jujujojo saw was an Epiphyllum, the size of the blooms certainly sounds like it? Cyber, you didn't misunderstood...I'm guessing he didn't make it on Black friday or they never got more in? Shame, I really wanted to see them also... Julianna, what is Queens? fighting8r, Yes, the Giant Swallowtails definitely are wonderful and so enjoyable to raise. Congratulations on your first eclosure in awhile! Mary, Some might come out this year yet, but I suspect that most of mine will overwinter. I honestly don't know if it would matter or not if you keep them inside or outside, but I keep mine outside from about this time of the year until they come out next year for the reason that you mentioned, so they sense the changing temps and don't come out too early when they shouldn't. Maybe they'd be okay this year yet, but I'd really rather that they wait until next year to eclose if possible. I'd probably raise those two tiny ones inside though until they pupate and then also put them outside. If they're inside in the warm, I think that speeds their growing process...unless you really want them to join you for Christmas. ;-) Cathy

So, I'm still not sure what I should do for a habitat. Right now he/she is in a mason jar w/a little dirt, some sticks and a few leaves (I put in a couple daisy, violet and echinacea leaves, he/she seems to like the cone flower I put more in this morning & also a morning glory leaf). I bought a large-ish plastic critter cage for $13 at Petco (figured I'd get large for future use) and when I get home I'm going to set it up w/a nice layer of dirt/sand - I have a good mix in my yard - a lot of sticks, branches, etc., and a sampling of leafy goodies from the yard. Do I leave this container outside until it builds a cocoon and then bring it in and keep it in a chilly garage or pantry? Do I leave it outside all winter, maybe in a protected, covered area? You know, it would actually fit inside my VERY large grill that gets left out, but covered up and in a semi-protected place. Do I put the leaf stems in water, or some sort of plant gel (don't want it to drown, although the cat is HUGE so I don't think that would happen)? What do I do in the spring? Just keep an eye on it? I've never mosaiced anything before Phyllis.Don't want to wreck him.I kind of like him the way he is :0)

Wow,my sister had a frog like that YEARS ago that she left here at my parents home. I wonder what happened to him? Rotty,you gonna be giving some wonderful BB gazing balls for Christmas?? hehe Would make a great gift!

I keep finding the BBs.Can't leave them there lol.I've only done 4.Have 3 in my gardens.Still have lots of room for more Ha Ha.
The ceiling globes I was going to try to fill them with cement and break the globe to make cement balls.
Was thinking maybe the next BB will be covered with Buttons.
And yes Kudzkween.....Lots of Christmas presents!!

That frog is pretty realistic looking, other than maybe he's been on steroids. LOL. Love him!
Can't believe the number of bowling balls you have. I've never found any in GW at all, tho do have two from the good old days when DH and I actually bowled.

nah. you don't want to mosaic that frog. it would then look cheap and unrealistic.
rotty. it would look good next to a ball covered with plastic lizards.then maybe spray over the ball and lizards with copper paint. just my opinion.

Love the frog just the way it is!

My daughter collects frogs of all shapes, sizes and materials. Has for years! Even has a tattoo of one on her ankle that looks like it's climbing up her leg...shadow and all. I told her it will look really good when she gets my varicose veins!! lol
