In my view, a the new LB's as a whole are not something I would be spending my hard earned dollars on. Toro lost my business when they killed the Wheelhorse garden tractors and the Lawnboys with 2 cycle engine and staggard wheel deck combo.

My next new mower will be a Snapper.

Whatever. I have a 10550 Duraforce that mainly sits in the shed since I got the 10684 'Insight' a year ago. It's a great mower and much more usable than the 10550. I also had a Honda HRB216TDA before the 10684, and I posted on here several times that I thought a great mower would have an aluminum deck with the Honda engine - so here it is. I don't know who is in charge of the Lawn-Boy Division of Toro, but they don't appear to be satisfied just painting Toros green - these are innovative mowers.

lawnmowerdan; the commercial you mentioned is out. It's the 22270. Looks like it has a Honda commercial engine on the same aluminum deck as the 107xx series 'Insight Platinum'. This will apparently replace the current commercial with a B&S on a staggered-wheel deck.

I don't know about the engine - on second look it's a Honda GCV. Are they making an iron-sleeve GCV for commercial use? If it's just a regular GCV there would be no real advantage to it over the 107xx series.

If that Insight Gold Series 10694 had been available the last time I was in the market for a mower, I would have bought it. Looks like a first rate push mower at a good price.

Good info! That looks like a heck of a commercial mower. I'm plotting now on getting a 10795. Speedway has them for $539 and free shipping. That's only $20 off MSRP, but the Home centers are not carrying the 107xx series - direct competition with the Honda mowers. Even if they did, and matched the Speedway price, the sales tax would take it up to $565.95 in my state. So, considering the free shipping, it's not a bad deal. First I have to get rid of some mowers to make room for it.

Nice mower Saxman, I agree the engineers working for Toro are doing a descent job with the lawnboy line. I think they have come along way these last couple of years.
I think some of the lawnboy models are nicer than their own Toro's. I still like the older two-strokes better, but if I were in the market for a new mower I'd look good and hard at one of these.

This is my feeling, too. The new models look better to me than anything painted red.

My thing is, I liked the Honda GCV I had on a HRB216TDA. I only got rid of it because that deck would only cut up to 3" which is too short here in the summer. I also like aluminum decks. I also have had a LB 10684 for a year and really like that, so it's a natural for me to like the same mower design in aluminum deck and GCV engine. If I had won a contest with the prize of being able to spec out the ideal LB mower, the 10795 would be it - at least it would seem to be, but I'll find out.

In case anyone is curious as to WHY I like the GCV, here's what I think about it: I used it about a year and a half, and was completely satisfied with it's performance in every aspect. Everything about the engine spoke of quality. Even though it's only rated at 5.5 HP, it pushed the heavy HRB216 around handily, even when going uphill while driving and mulching. The engine is noticably quieter and smoother than a typical L-head and makes a big difference in the quality of your time behind a mower. Of course, I still have reservations about the timing belt in the long run, like many others, but am willing to take a chance on another one.

If its genuine Honda its gonna be a good engine.
I've had no issues from any power equipment that used Honda power. But most we're older before the China clones came to be.

I guess this is the official end to the staggered deck still found on the Briggs commercial mowers...sad.

I am not a fan of the offset-wheel deck, although I recognize it has a couple of good points. For my yard, the offset wheel gives me a fit. It's a major relief to me to pull the 'square' 10684 out and use it. I'm still using the 10550, but it's definitely on the bubble. If LB comes out with a self-propelled version of the 22270 with Honda 190cc commercial engine and aluminum deck, the 10550 would be sacrificed to help get that. The 10795 is out because it has the standard-duty Honda 160cc. If it had the standard-duty Honda 190cc, I would have to very seriously consider ordering one tonight. Since I have no urgent need for a new mower at all, just wants, I think I'll still wait and see what comes out of the Insight Commercial line.

Always go for the aluminum(cast deck).

Cast is better. I wish I could get a 54 inch cast deck for my GT.

I still have on snapper and one toro recycler with the aluminum cast deck. They cut better.

Aluminum lawnmower decks arent anything all that new- they have been around a while. My friend picked up a free aluminum decked push mower ( with no motor) someone threw out. Its a really old one, as all the paint had been worn off.

If you had 'been around awhile' like most of us here, you would know that we know all about aluminum decks. We don't speak of them because they're 'new', we do so because the cast-aluminum deck has always been the mark of a premium mower. When a manufacturer brings out an aluminum-decked mower, its always a subject worthy of note. When Lawn-Boy mates the excellent Honda engine with the aluminum version of the excellent 'Insight' hi-dome deck, its a headline in the lawn mower world.

Saxman1, thanks for your insightful comments here and elsewhere. I am going to take a hard look at that Honda/LB combo probably in the regular push version as my yard isn't huge although it does slope downhill front and back. But I suppose it would make it easier (and safer) for those times when my gf cuts to have a s-p version. You've got my wheels turning, thank you. That Insight deck is indeed impressive. With the LB handle and easy bag, too, and the Honda engine...it becomes hard to pass up.
