Grass identification help - updated pictures

What kind of grass is this? I pulled all the strands together and it came back to one central point. It spreads out and grows fast and up, leaving fescue in between. It can look like a strand here and there, when actually its a big clump spread out. Or just look like a solid clump. It stands tall, had it up to 7" before I mowed it.

Some grasses get up to 7 feet tall so a height of 7 inches doesn't help that much. Do you have any pictures of it that tall? Kinda need to see the seed heads, assuming they were showing at 7 inches. Can't really give you a great answer just looking at the bottom of the plant.

This grass has never been tall enough to show seed heads like the fescue is showing now and for the last few weeks. I will work on better pictures. This grass isn't seeding at 7" or below.

Thanks for the replies. @ Tiemco so Tall fescue is the type of seeds I need to buy for that bare spots? Sorry is that's a dumb question LOL! Here is the bare spot in the front. Below are a few pictures of the rear. @ Newrandwest I noticed the tearing when I was reviewing the pics. I have a push mower & that it a brand new blade on it. Do you have to sharpen new blades? I just thought about it. I used a pellet type of weed & feed shortly before the guy at the store told me to try the liquid kind. I only treated the front half of the yard with that & I treated the whole yard with the liquid. I dont know if that was too much for the grass but I believe the pellets are the reason the front looks pretty green & half decent. I didn't use the pellets in the back because money was getting low plus the back was in really bad condition & needed a lot of work. The yard has a little incline up to the canter then it goes back down & that kinda hide the rough parts from the front. Here is the main problem spot in the front yard. From the front porch Up close Dead? Under the side extension for the kitchen Back yard. You can see the weed killer are keeping those little white flower things in the other yard Is if my yard wasn't jacked up enough... Thanks Direct TV guy! If I could get my entire yard to look like this part in the front I would be very happy :-)

Tall fescue? The blades look too skinny to me, I've got quite a bit of tall fescue in the yard and the blades are much bigger then the blades in the pictures. It does grow in clumps much like tall fescue though...

I can't narrow down the top one besides to say I believe they are in the sedge family. Slice through one of the stems under the seed head and check to see if it is roughly triangular in shape. That would verify it is a sedge. The solution for sedges is different from that of grasses or other plants. In the US we have a product called Sedge Hammer and one called Image. Don't know what you might have behind the black stump. For the other weed my first approach would be to use a 2,4-d product. Do you have Weed-B-Gone? The idea for these sprays is to moisten the leaves of the plant, not to drench the soil. A little goes a long way. If the second plant is not killed by the Weed-B-Gone, I would try putting some RoundUp in a small bud vase and sticking a strand of the plant into the vase. Let it soak up the RoundUp. There are some vine type weeds where one root system feeds a lot of the plant. This might be one. I've tried it on bind weed in my garden. One vase killed all the weed in the garden.

Looks like St Augustine. St Aug has a coarse blade and a blunt tip before you mow it. Centipede and bermuda have a pointed tip. Looking at this last picture, in the lower right hand corner it looks like the soil level falls off down to the brick. Am I seeing that correctly? For St Augustine the care goes like this. Always mulch mow at your mower's highest setting. This will wipe out all the other grassy plants in the yard. Broadleaf weeds will need to be picked out or sprayed with an atrazine type herbicide. Be careful with atrazine. Read the label carefully, twice. You don't say where you live, but if 9b is your zone, then you likely live near a coast somewhere between Boston and Vancouver. Zones are pretty much useless for help with lawns, so if you could tell us where you live it would help. In general you should be watering deeply once per week when the temps are in the 90s (if they get to the 90s). When the temps fall into the 80s, you should be watering once every 2 weeks. With temps in the 70s, water once every 3 weeks. Deeply means 1 inch all at one time. Measure 1 inch using tuna or cat food cans placed around the yard. Fertilize in the late spring (Memorial day is usually good), early fall (Labor Day), and late fall (Thanksgiving). Don't use weed n feed products. If you follow the plan above you won't have weeds. Plus the right time to apply herbicide is never the right time to apply fertilizers, so you don't get the results you hoped for.

I've had that in my backyard next to the neighbor's horse corral. If what I get in the front is trivialis, that is not trivialis as the trivialis is easy to pull up and that stuff isn't nearly so easy. The local guru identified it as either orchard grass or nutsage. She couldn't be more specific as I only had the roots and a couple of inches above that to show her. Weed B Gone may have had some affect on it but I think the KBG choked it out. We'll see later this summer.

I have ruled out nutsedge but I haven't ruled out orchard.

Can you pull some Poa Triv and take a detailed picture?

I hope it is orchard grass because it is easy to control spreading until I nuke it in a few months

Sorry, I pulled it all out week before last and reseeded with the KBG. I'll ask the neighbor if he minds me pulling some out of his lawn (don't want to insult him tho). I'm going by What Mok57 has pictured and that it has been I.d.'d as trivialis. It looks to me exactly like what I had in one area of my lawn and what you have pictured looks exactly like what I had in my backyard and they certainly were not the same plant in my case.
