A Simple Cobalt Blue Totem

Used up all of my extra, cobalt blue, glass pieces to create a simple totem. Placed it next to our carved wood eagle. You can see our blue bottle tree in the background. :o) ENJOY! Bear Hugs! Kirk

In the first photo, the totem really isn't crooked! :o) The photographer (ME!) needs to stand up straight! LOL! Bear Hugs! Kirk

Funny, Kirk, I wouldn't have noticed it was crooked until you said something! lol! The blue looks so pretty outside and matches so well with your bottle tree. You were lucky to find so many pretty cobalt blue pieces ... they are hard to come by around here. Great job!

I use a black and decker cordless drill, its 18 volt also and I bought a small glass drill bit at Sears. I just sit and drill and relax cuz it takes a while to do it.(about 15 mins to drill through the vase) I also found that the thinner the glass the better chance you have that it doesn't crack. The thick heavy glass vases don't work as well. I don't push down hard either I just hold the drill in place and drill away. Basically the glass turns to powder and I just dump the powder every so often and continue drilling.I really think this is a fun craft to do. Drilling isn't hard it just takes time and it does allow you to make different things. (-:

Ok Kirk, so I was out today at a Flea Market and ran into Nathans 2nd grade teacher. She was a vendor at the flea market and had various collectables on her table. Two jumped out at me--a rainbow cobalt bird and a red cardinal bird---both glass and signed. I got them each for $2 (what a deal, huh?). So I did a search for them since one had a sticker saying it was from Terra Studios. Well, each one is worth about $10 each. I STILL will use them in totems for sure....because that's what I do. Then I remembered your birdbath birds and searched on Terra Studios website and found your exact birds there. So, I don't know how much you paid, hopefully less than from the studio itself. Wow, they are beautiful! I used E6000 for the first 3 years of making my totems and plate flowers. It has worked excellent but I noticed after 4 years in my garden year round some had a brownish tint where the glue was. I now use UV6800 which won't do that and works just a great as the E6000. As far as the slipping around goes I always have to check on mine every 15 or so minutes and make the corrections before it dries completely. I try to make sure I have everything level but some pieces of glass are not perfect. It help to apply the glue and let it sit for 5 minutes before attaching the next piece of glass. It holds on better that way.

I can see that the two center stem pieces are the same but placed in reverse directions. What is the white object separating them? I agree with Kathy, but in its simplicity lies its beauty. Nicely done. Robert

Beautiful piece!! and a great setting once it was put in place as well.
I'm *green* with envy , blue glass is sooo hard to find around here. :-)

Beautiful! I collect Cobalt Blue. There is just something so rich looking about it. Don't let my DH see that beautiful eagle or he will drive to Washington to snich it...................... :)

Nice scene you created. I bought the same bottle tree..Now it's drinking all those blue bottles of wine from Target that is going to be the probem!! I only have two down, and how many more to go!!! Eeeek!!
