Oh where to start..

I'm not sure where to start on this. I don't know if I should control the weeds first or try to seed over what's there. My front yard is St. Augustine grass and the back yard is Bermuda grass. I tried Weed B Gone and it did a good job of controlling the broad leaf weeds but didn't do much for the rest of the weeds. The rest of the weeds I don't even know what they are. Any help would be appreciated!

you wouldn't believe how tall they are already ... i just measured them ... the tallest ones are 7 & 1/2" tall! ... not only that, but i dug them up last fall in their original containers; & just let them start up again in the same pots ... *sigh* i have no experience with bulbs; (can you tell!) & there are TEN sprouts in one little 4" sq. pot ... that can't be good, right? ... the 2nd pot has only 5 sprouts ... common sense is now telling me i should have taken them out of their original dirt & then ... idunno ... split them up; or something? ... why oh why didn't i come here & ask questions BEFORE i made this dumb mistake? i just tried to take a picture, but my batteries are dead ... so i will try again later ... thanks from phyl ... who is wondering if she could still separate them at this point without killing them???

I think because of the shipping method RC uses, it takes quite a while for packages to arrive... they are sent by French Post, which is like our regular mail. I wish they offered a faster shipping method, but as of now, they don't. The good thing is... their bulbs arrive in decent shape, even after the long trip. I think 15 days is unrealistic... it's more like 20-25 days! But have no fear... they will arrive! My order took almost a month to arrive, and that was the replacement order. And still, the bulbs were in good shape. Wow, Palmcoast! 25% is a lot of mislabeled bulbs! And if I'm not mistaken, you're not the only customer to receive mislabeled bulbs from MZ! I often wonder what happens from the time the crates of bulbs from the growers arrive at the distributors, to the time they actually pack them for individual orders and ship them out... how do all these bulbs end up in the wrong bags or with the wrong tags? I wonder if it's because they need to hire extra help during the busy season, and the new workers are inexperienced...

starting a community garden in OH

Is there anyone interested in trying to start a community garden in North/central OH?? I would like to get one going but I really dont know how/where to start and it would be great if there were any other individuals in my area also interested in doing this because I know I cant do it alone. Also if ANYONE has any advice/ideas on how/where to start, or any other helpful advice for a newbie to community gardening I really would appreciate it......thanx

Sorry. Had phone call.
The first thing you want to do if you want to start over is to begin a applying roundup to your weeds, bahia and what remains of the st. augustine mix. (will take months of repeated applications on that stuff) Scalp it as low as you can go with your mower by removing the wheels of your mower if necessary to get down to half inch or 3/4". Then haul in some good top soil and level the lawn with 3/4" of top soil and re-SOD that area. Don't forget to water and fertilize your lawn and use pre-emergent at the appropriate times of year. Do not mix species of warm season grass. Pick one... bermuda, st. augustine or bahia. They are not compatible.

Is that sea grape I see? Are you within a mile of the coast?

Your back yard looks like it doubles as home plate. Do you have a lot of activity in the yard that we should know about? Dogs, for example?

Are you willing to water and mow the lawn weekly? Are you more willing to fertilize 0 times per year, 4 times per year or 9 times per year?

St Augustine will work for you but only if you are willing to water it once a week. If you are then start watering and put some fertilizer down. If you are not willing to do that, then bermuda is your only choice. If you are not willing to fertilize the bermuda, it will look a little weedy and thin. Of the two, bermuda requires more input to make it look nice. You can be very lazy with St Aug and it will look nice but you cannot let it go dry.
