For Creeping Charlie you need to use Weed B Gone Clover, Chickweed, Oxalis killer. It has a different chemistry than Weed B Gone specifically for certain weeds like creeping charlie. Any bare areas in your yard will not regrow with fescue, as fescue is a bunch grass and doesn't spread much. A fall reseeding will be necessary to fill in bare spots.

Thanks for the quick response. In your opinion which option do you find most suitable?

1) replacing infested areas with sod
2) taking very good care of the lawn this summer, ie keeping it long, mulch mowing, and deep water in an effort to crowd out CC
3) zap it with the weed b gone you suggested now and overseeding in the fall

How large are the areas of creeping charlie? Are we talking about large sections of the lawn, or random smaller areas scattered throughout the grass. A picture of what you are dealing with would be very helpful.

I will try and get a picture tomrrow afternoon, work schedule permiting. It smaller random sections of the lawn. Most of the areas are 3 X 3 with about 10 different instances. Mostly in the more shaded and damp sections of my yard. This winter and early part of spring has been extremely wet. My yard has flooded twice in the past month which hasnt helped my cause.

Patching small random areas with sod usually isn't feasible. First of all you need to find somewhere to buy a small quantity of sod, most sod farms sell by the pallet. Secondly when you patch an area you need to remove the appropriate amount of topsoil so the sod lays flush, not a hard job, but if there are a lot of areas to do it can be a pain in the neck. Patched areas also stand out and don't match that well. When you put sod down you have to water it daily for a while till it takes root, not a hard thing, but if the areas are located all over the lawn then you will be wasting a lot of water on areas that don't need daily watering. I would do steps 2 and 3 of your plan.

It took me 3 seasons to kill my creeping charlie. It's a tough weed to completely kill.

I found the advice given by my state extension dept to work the best.

Apply the herbicide in the FALL

Use a herbicide with TRICLOPYR (Bayer and Weed-b-gone make it)

In early Sept spray the CC with a liquid fertilizer. (MiracleGro) The plant will be naturally storing carbs for winter. This fertilizer will make the intake of the herbicide easier as the plant will intake both to it's roots

1 week later spray the herbicide

1 week to 2 weeks later reapply the herbicide.

The CC will not turn brown before it goes dormant ... but ... you will have clobbered it and you will have LESS charlie next Spring.

Reseed the treated areas in the Fall

Plan on a long war with "charlie"
