Screened porch/kitchen/dining/playing area done!

As some of you know from an earlier post, I've been working on screening in a carport for awhile now. I've been back for a week and a half, and have finished it up! (I was away for a month taking care of my mom, who's all better)

This is as done as it gets, with a little tweeking here and there with the decorations.

The lovely black countertop is some lexan I brought back from my folks, didn't know what I was going to do with it when I got it, but had that brainstorm. I picked up a couple of months ago 13 great blue glass knobs, and that was exactly as many as I needed for the old cabinet. I put lights around the top behind the glass (great storage place for totem material) and down the roofline.

The floor is gravel with large sisal rugs. (when I find bigger ones, it will be all rug..lol) My DH finally came home and put up gutters so the rain wouldn't run down the screen.

DH bought me the stained glass lamp for an Xmas gift.

The little bistro chairs, were bright blue and salmon. I painted them with hammered brown paint, and they work wonderfully.

Wow! Is that actually an outdoor kitchen? I think I remember pics from before from the outside area. I just love how serene & relaxing of a space this is. Beautiful!!

Glad your Mom is better and glad you are back!!! You are a very lucky lady!!!! You and your DH are 'makin' miracles'!!! No mosquito issues with all of the beauty of the great outdoors. I love the entire environment that you have created. It will be a great space to work on projects as well.

I think you need to do a layout like a room. Can you post a diagram with dimensions, including doorways and fairs to patio? I just built a small porch, though its bigger than yours. Our porch was designed with BBQ in mind, but now that its real life and not a plan on paper, DH is afraid one BBQ flair up could mark porch ceiling or God forbid, cause a fire. Now, BBQ is on patio. But it can't be near the porch because then the smoke blows up onto the porch which is unpleasant for those relaxing on porch. Anyway, we don't plan to eat meals on porch, but we wanted that option. We wanted nice comfy chairs, not dining chairs. We opted to get a rectangular fire pit table with 4 nice cushioned chairs. It's a tight fit on our porch. We chose the fire put table because its higher than most coffee tables and you could eat there if you wanted to. We don't plan to use fire bit much for same reasons stated above for BBQ.

You've gotten good advice here. One fan will be plenty for your room. You might even consider adding a light to the fan to provide overhead lighting when needed instead of recessed lights. You could install switched outlets for lamps or wall sconces for your ambient lighting, which is nicer to relax with than recessed lights, unless you put them on dimmers. There would be money saved if you skip the recessed lights and dimmer switch. We rarely use our recessed lights to have accent lighting at night, or to watch television. The spaces between the furniture are too tight to walk through the room with a platter of food or to pull out a chair at the table. You already figured out that the French doors and step are inoperable against the back of the loveseat. How much are you able to extend the length of your room? With a fixed width the 1'4" behind the sofa(loveseat) is too small to walk through. Could you push it back against the wall? Your table area is too tight to pull out a chair with 2' and 2'4" on some sides. Is it possible to use a smaller table for four instead of six? Using a smaller round table with chairs at 2 o'clock, 4 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock may work instead of pushing them back against the walls. One or two club chairs angled close to the corners of the French doors might work instead of the loveseat at the entrance. You have done a great job drawing the room and measurements. I don't have a program to help you try out different furniture, but hope some sweet soul will come along to assist you. As it looks the room is not large enough to carry out two rooms of furniture, unless you can expand your length. It will be fun watching your progress. This will be a lovely addition to your home.

First, you are so luck to have such a wonderful getaway vacation home! It is on a beautiful lot. I agree with missymoo as well, and also what Olychick said. Something about that table smack dab in the middle of the room seems to block entry into the screened porch. I love the idea of a sofa against the wall, something like what robo posted with some comfy cushions and arms, and a chair for reading with a footstool that could also double as an extra seat. Add a small cocktail table you can also use for a tray of snack food. The bar cart is also a great idea. Encourages people to gravitate to where the food and drinks are. You could also string up some lighting along the perimeter and it would look very inviting. Do you get a lot of sun on the deck? It looks shady so I would think a new round table with chairs for seating would be fine and then move your grill & the pub table out there. You can get some pretty nice chairs that swivel and rock. I have also seen some benches that double as storage for the cushions so that might be an option if there is room. That would keep cushion maintenance down for you when you aren't there.

@grapefruit1_ar....Yes, I was also surprised by the closeness of the houses too. Its a newer construction and they are all built that way. Some have detached and some have attached garages, ours is attached...so we have no yard, just the side space and a little next to the driveway. I do have a porch in the front, which is nice and also a small landscaped area in the front. They are trying to build kind of like a community, they have planned for building 1500 single family and townhomes. They will also build a playground, swimming pool, clubhouse, sledding hill, amphitheater, biking/hiking/jogging trails, park-picnic areas, soccer field, future school and future retail stores and small offices. That's why the houses are crammed together with little yard space and I guess they expect people to come together in common areas like a small town feeling, which is what attracted me to the place.

Thanks everyone, I forgot to add the picture of the yard, looking out from the porch. Here's where I put that great headboard I scored.. and a plate flower and a bit of left over fence. Its surrounding a plot of Ginger I dug up from moms..lol

Now that's just darling...looks smaller from the outside, but I saw the inside shots, I was amazed at how big it is and much you have in there. What a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors without being pestered by the flying critters! I have tried to figure out how to screen in my patio, but so far, no brainstorms! ENJOY!

How wonderful! What a great place to hang out with family and friends and make stuff.
I still don't have my new screen porch but its 60 degrees here and Raining for days with no end in sight :C So I'm inside under a blankie anyway.

wow! that is the best junk project i've ever seen! great job. what is the hanging stuff to the left- looks like chain or beads? very cute.

LOL, thanks all, I appreciciate the feedback. The hanging beaded thingys, are Beaded curtains/door? thingys. I picked them up a couple of months ago at the local TS. I have one on the back door in the screened room too. DH hates that one, makes getting out an adventure...lol

My sister who's never been here will be here this afternoon!!! Whooo hoooo.. You'all have a great 4th!!

dulci ... "It doesn't get any better than this!" That's what my DH & I say to each other when a moment in time seems so wonderful! dulci i thought it was beads, lol. i'm a child of the '60's. when i worked at the nursing home they'd play music from the 40's. i always wondered what would blast from the speakers of my generation..... Beatles, The Doors, Pink Floyd? Thanks for a short walk down memory lane.

I love your screened area! You did a fantastic job on it!

I want a play area too. That is going to be my next big project after I finish putting my studio back together. I have a bunch of screen doors and old windows and old screens for windows....Now you really have my gears turning. I don't think an outdoor kitchen would fair too well in my climate but it would be a great outdoor livingroom for the warmer months. Now I will just have to find an old carport of figure out something for the roof...

Wow! That's almost like another house! Great idea. You could call it the "summer house". Move a bed in and live there! ;-) I know you'll get a lot of use out of it (even without the bed).

of your bench. I had forgotten about it
because it has been in the shed so long.

Well, I've been away on vacation, but all I want to know is: WHEN can I come for a visit??? Your screen porch turned out beautifully! Can't believe the whole kitchen setup...how cool is that? Looks great! I know you'll really enjoy it!

Your porch is "home away from home". Love the window walls & all the pretty glass sitting around the top ledges. I got relaxed just looking at the pictures!

That's an awesome looking outdoor kitchen. We're in the process of getting some customized outdoor kitchen plans done from the guys in the link below. We're hoping to make it around 15'x20 with gas fireplace table too. Will post some pics up when we're done.

Geez, how did I miss posting on this one last year? I have to say I love the screened in kitchen. Lucky you that you are somewhere warm where that is a possibility. What a great space to enjoy the view, some food and drink and no flying pests! Love your "garden junk" including the two planted chairs. Be sure to post some pictures this year!

That is a wonderful way to reuse old windows. I am thinking up a plan to re-use mine for a privacy type wall for our patio.
