Muskmelon Slipping Question :)

I have been reading on here about the correct way to determine ripeness of Muskmelons. I understand the idea about 'slipping' but I was wondering if there is any other clues the melon gives when it is getting ready to fall from the vine. For example, the area where the vine attaches to the fruit, does that start to change color?

I ask this because I am new to melon growing, and the seeds I planted were saved from a farmers market melon. I didnt think they would even grow let alone bear fruit, but I had a spare bit of yard left after a vine got pulled out, and a nice bit of soil and mulch to put in and I didnt wat the area to go to waste. So I figured I might as well experiment.

Now up until last Tuesday, I thought the experiment had failed, but I was out puttering in the melon area when I spy this melon who is about the same size as a small store melon(and at least 3 others of varying size) So now I am scrambling for as much info as I can get :)
