Tow Behind Sprayer

Recently got a town behind sprayer for the Sears Garden tractor. 15 gallon sized unit. After reading through the spray setting charts and calculating the amount of Ortho Weed B Gone to use per tank, realized quickly that this was NOT terribly efficient.

Max pressure on this is about 50psi. #2 spray tips. It has three spray nozzles that are 18" off the ground and put out a FINE fan spray. I tested it on the driveway with plain water. Coverage seemed fine.

There has to be a more efficient way to get this sprayed in a reasonable time.

Ortho says 1.5 oz per gallon, 160 sq ft coverage per oz

1.5 x 15 gallons = 22.5 oz per tank full

160 sq ft x 1.5oz = 240 sq ft per gal coverage

15 gallons x 240 sq ft = 3,600 sq ft per tank full

40,000 square feet coverage / 3,600 sq ft = 11.1 tanks

11.1 x 15 gal tank = 166.5 gallons per 40,000 sq ft

According to Fimco charts:

at 50psi, .23 gal per minute, 1 mph speed, = 66.4 gallons per acre.

Anyone who has used a tractor on an acre or more, knows that a 1 mph speed is going to take a longggg time.

Any suggestions on boosting the flow rate so I can use a more realistic speed setting??

The stock spray nozzles are only good when it is dead calm. Otherwise, you get all kinds of drift. And it is almost always windy here!
