Before responding, may I ask why you settle on a kbg.ttf mix?
What was the motivation for the decision?

In talking to a couple of landscapers in the area, the new TTTF cultivars were brought up. My first thought was no way, I had never heard of it being used in my area. I began to look into it a little more, and saw it was being used more and more. In learning that the newer cultivars are able to be blended well (in some people's opinion) with KBG, I started to think it might be a good idea. I liked the idea of the deeper roots and drought tolerance, along with the disease resistance.
The more I read other posts on here about KBG, I began to realize that I may be able to find the same things in the right cultivars of KBG.
I guess I heard the hype of this wonder grass called TTTF, and jumped on the band wagon, (Not to offend anyone who has TTTF) but then, second guessing myself and fearing it wouln't work, (and not wanting my husband to say "What did you do, I told you the lawn looked fine the way it was") I came here and am humbly begging for your help!
Just to add: I have average wear. I have 2 kids, (4 and 1)(unless you count my husband, the big kid!) and we spend plenty of time outside, but not necessarily playing on the lawn. I would say it is more going from yard to yard type wear, with the occasional activity on it. The kids on the street are older so they tend to play their games of fotball and baseball in their yards (thank goodness for that!)
I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my lawn (and if anyone knows of a good support group for this, my husband would be happy to join me up!)I cannot go outside to even play, without examining and critiquing my lawn. I enjoy it, and am willing to put the time and effort into it. We live on a cul-de-sac of 13 houses and I would not mind my lawn sticking out like a sore thumb (as the nicest, of course) and I would be happy to give you guys, and gals all of the credit (ok, most of the credit!)

You are in good company here. We are your support group and you are ours. You are an excellent candidate for a total lawn renovation. You have all summer to plan for it. And you do need a plan. If you desire the best lawn on the block, The country club lawn, then stay tuned to this forum. Many persons here use the "Magnificent three" or slight variations thereof, suggested by our own best member "BestLawn". Start now by improving your existing lawn as much as possible, build the soil and the turf, eliminate the weeds. In the fall you will kill it all and plant an elite field of Kentucky Bluegrass that will be the envy of Cleveland and all of Northern Ohio next May (2009). Start now. Water deep but infrequently, cut your grass long, increase the organic materials in your lawnÂs soil. In September you will kill it all and plant new. In October you will have some green stuff growing there that may scare you a little. Fertilize it well and then next spring, Stand Back. Keep reading here, there is lots of information and experience to help you.

I got chills thinking about how my lawn is going to look! I was thinking of overseeding now, in the spring, but may just have to reconsider! Why should I hurry when I can wait until fall, do it right, and then spend the rest of my days enjoying it! We will see!

Moms--If you're really a perfectionist, I'm going to side with Bill. Wait until fall, kill the existing lawn and replace it completely. Probably with some variation of mag3. A number of people here have done that over the past few years and some have posted pictures that are astonishing and show a difference in color from their neighbors' lawns that it is simply astonishing.

You can seed in the spring, but you'll lose more of the grass in the summer than with a fall seeding. So if you're doing a full replacement (which would seem to be the way to go for a perfectionist), a spring seeding will not be very satisfactory. If you overseed, you'll have more of a lawn at the end of the summer, but the perfectionist in you won't be happy.

oh my god, I saw the Mag3 term again. :) I was the one who aliased it and bestlawn approved it. I really wasn't able to purchase them last year since the requirement for watering was conflicting with our village's rules. Anyways guys, for those who have put MAG3 last year, how does it look now? Can someone please post pictures?

I actually posted another thread earlier and was asking about another type of seed. I forgot to answer though if there are seeds that germinates quickly. Did some search and looks like TTTF grows pretty quick. However, I have not seen how they look like as well.

I guess the only reason I wanted to do it this spring (which I am not doing by the way!)is because I had some spots of creeping bentgrass that I had to kill off, so they needed re seeded, and I figured I'd do it all at once. But I am just going ahead and touching those spots up with the existing mix of what I have and then I will go all out in the fall!
