(Wagging finger) A few degrees C doesn't mean much to precipitation type, but it sure can destabilize normal weather patterns and render them unusual, irregular, and downright unpredictable.

Besides, most of the warming will happen at the heat sinks--the poles--and faster at the north pole than the south (or, the one surrounded by warming land that jettisons that heat northward). Texas, and most of the US, wouldn't notice much beyond wacky weather for a while. Canada...not so fortunate.

Religion? Um, no, I definitely don't worship Lovelock or Lorentz or anybody there, nor is there an Inviolate Book of Holy Writ. The weight of data either does or does not support the conclusion, and to a specified probability. As hypothesis strengthen into theories...well, even then they aren't canonical. We tossed Newton for Einstein, and we already know that GR has to change to account for quantum gravity.

And that's just one small example...chosen quite intentionally.

the problem with global warming is that there is no data to support it, yet it has been accepted as fact by many. there is, however, data supporting that it does not exist, or at least not in the alarming manner being portrayed by the UN and that Gore guy. like the simple fact that although carbon dioxide gases have been increasing over the past 9 years, global temperatures have not increased at all. in fact, i have read a couple of sources saying there was a very slight decrease in temperature during that time frame.

its not hard to look in to things. and i am not trying to be insulting. the problem with most supporting articles or documentaries is that they may provide factual information but are leaving out facts. or as in the popular and debunked inconvienent truth, mix and maxxed facts to draw inaccurate conclusions.

something that never made sense to me is this. CO2 is suppose to be so bad and evil, yet our plantlife needs it. the use it up and spit out oxygen. just common sense to me.
btw, i do believe in treating our planet as well as possible. i have a 2 fairly economical hondas for our cars. i car pool when possible. i have fluorescent lights in my house, and when i have the money i will buy better appliances. i am even organic for my lawn care.

like i said, i feel the big push for global warming is primarily political. look at the Kyoto treaty. it has the United States paying the biggest price. China, Brazil and India are not even included. why is that? they are rapidly industrializing and there is no question that China will soon overtake the US. to top it off, none of those countries have anywhere near the regulations that we do. US pays the bill because it has(or had) the money, and it can go straight to the UN, effectivly weakening a strong nation and empowering and already proven corrupt and useless organization.

But whether you agree with the research, there has been plenty of research supporting the theory. This site lists quite a few other sites on the web where you can read more.

Unfortunately, I think this whole debate has been politicized. So folks on the right will deny any evidence showing support for the theory. Folks on the left will do the inverse.

I'd rather leave it to the scientists to come up with the theories and not let Rush or Al Franken decide for me whether it is true or not.

Developing nations weren't included until they developed. Infrastructure is, absolutely no argument, easier and cheaper on fossil fuels. Sustainable tech comes later.

Regrettably, I knew his name would come up. He's a known shill, not a scientist, and gets caught in some really embarrassingly simple errors (gas mixing in Earth's atmosphere was one I remember offhand). It's a bit like engineers nattering on about evolution (which they do, often, and are almost always dead wrong). Nice, but competence in one field does not imply competence in another.

Sources if you wish, of course, but later, or you can do the research yourself if that pleases you more.

Sidenote: the above also means you absolutely shouldn't accept one word out of my mouth. You should go do the research for yourself, attain the necessary background, read the numbers, do the math, and make your own decision.

As I consider this, you're quite right and I was quite wrong.

For me, this is not a religion and I don't blindly put trust in any scientist. Unfortunately, right-wingers and left-wingers do tend to, as with any other demagogue-dominated area.

As such, and given what I've read previously, I fed a troll. Pseudo-science may drive me nuts, but as I age I reach a conclusion. If America wants to throw away its technological dominance because Science Is Scary...then that is its right.

I'm sorry. I have no children, and the worst-case ecological scenarios don't put any major problems until well after I'm dead.

I'll do my best to get people thinking instead of believing when it comes to science. Hence, do not ever believe me. Look it up for yourself, or perform the experiment if it's simple enough.

I'll certainly continue to learn. Always have, always will. Tonight I wanted to look into some exoplanet data.

there is evidence of a long term warming trend, not a man made warming trend. at least not that i have seen anyway. (i havent read your link yet, so i dont know about that yet)

morpheus, i hope you arent calling me a troll. i do not post a whole lot on these forums, but i have been reading here and posting for over a year now. i hope thats not what you think of me.

i am really at work right now, so all i did was google and post a couple of the first links that popped up. i posted 2, you pointed out that the 2nd was not legitimate. the first link though has citations which at least shows research being done to back up claims being made.

anyway, part of my point is this. most of what i hear and see on the news and in the media supports the global warming movement. however, whenever i look in to it myself, the evidence seems to show otherwise.

that also being said, its not a subject that i spend the majority of my time on, but i have looked a little bit because of curiosity. in this matter, i dont think it will be realistic for me to conduct my own experments on global warming, so i have to rely on other resources.

in the end, i hope i didnt upset anyone. not my intention. sorry if i dont agree with you guys but like i said, most of what i have seen so far points the other direction. all that being said i guess we are wwaaaaayyyyyyyyy off the discussion of lawn care now, so i am done too.

I took a six month break from reading the forums here in Gardenweb. Reason being, EVERY time someone brought up the weather in the Lawn Care forum, it turned into a Global Warming argument. EVERY time someone brought up emissions in the Lawn Mower forum, an EPA/Global Warming arguement would errupt. Can we just add GW as a separate forum and leave the GW discussions strickly in that forum? Ugh.
