Advice for a newly seeded lawn

Hello,

Late last summer we removed all the old grass and weeds from our lawn and reseeded. We were very consistent about watering and the grass came in beautifully. We cut it fairly short before winter and tried to rake the leaves off it gently.

Now I am wondering what to do this spring. The grass is starting to green up a little, but there are many areas with dead grass and just soil underneath. Is it ok to rake all this up and try to reseed? Or should I leave it alone until later in the season and see if the existing grass returns?

I would also like to apply some compost and possibly corn gluten for crab grass control. Is this the right time or too early?

Thanks for any advice.
