Thanks so much for the reply Larry! I'm not sure about birds...I did see a few insects/bees occasionally? I also rubbed almost all the blooms every morning with my fingers tips...don't know if that did any good or not, but I did see a lot of pollen flying around.I tried the paintbrush thing, but I had no luck whatsoever with it. I didn't see any pollen transfer at all I am just hoping that the fact that the stems are still hanging on might be a good sign? I will see if these make it through August, its good info that it takes almost 3 months to see any size increase. At least I know what/when I should be looking for. Especially since I live in an area where its questionable if they would even fruit here? Wish me luck and thanks again!

If the new shoots are coming from below the soil line, I'd take them off. If maybe they were 3 inches from the soil line, I'd take them off too. Those strawberry guava's like to be bushy, so trying to make them into a "tree" is hard to do, I've tried! (You can pinch them off any time really) Kevin

If they are from different seeds, they will pollinate each other. They should be grown in separate pots because the stronger one may choke out the other one. Even though they are from the same plant, genetically they are slightly different and so that's why seedlings can pollinate each other. Exact clones (cuttings) are 100% genetically the same so there would be pollination issues. I say different seeds because some plants (I'm not sure if pineapple guava is one) are polyembryonic - many embryos / seedlings from the same seed (Blue Lilly Pilly is an example of poly embryonic-seeds) Think of this as identical twins (poly-embryonic) and fraternal twins (seeds from the same plant) The other seedling may survive - pot it up separate and see. No harm in trying.

Absolutely let it mature and eat it, If you have fruit flies in the area protect it by bagging it in some fashion. I have and have had many guava and allowing them to keep their fruit does not affect their future health. SOME guava will give off a VERY aromatic scent indicating it is time to harvest, others you have to go by color. Some stay firm and others get soft when ripe. You have to be familiar with the one you own to eventually know more.
