I got a set of "tenor" pentatonic chimes from a company called Music of the Spheres a few years back for about $350. Absolutely gorgeous sound. One problem I have is finding a good way to mount them in the yard. (So I have them mounted to a 4x4 that was conveniently already attached to a corner of the house -- though a little disturbing when these brusiers bang against the house in a heavy wind!) They need about 8' of vertical distance from hook to bottom of windcatcher on the clapper. I fear they are too heavy, and will generate too much force and torque in a heavy wind for the kinds of hooks I see in the stores, which are designed more for hanging baskets. The only overhanging tree limbs are too high (i.e., big chimes hanging on a 20' cord would make for a deadly pendulum in a 40 mph wind). A tallish arbor might work, though they would bang against the wood and potentially break the latticework, and might twist the arbor in ways it was not designed for. Given that there are several companies out there that make chimes this size and larger, I would expect to find stands made for this purpose, but so far my searches have turned up empty. Has anyone found a good mid-yard mounting solution for their big chimes? Maybe my worries about the "obvious" solutions one sees in garden stores are unwarranted...if anybody has tested them out, please do post! That is really cute. Did you paint the tree white? that really adds a lot to the whole scene!!! I think it would be funny to do something crazy so your neighbor and DH could say hmmmmmmm...lol You could get some fake flowers and cut off the stems and stick them on the ends of the bottles....(-: I think it looks great as is though(-; My DH thought I was nuts doing my bottle tree but when I got it all finished he liked it. Everyone who sees it enjoys it too so its been a real conversation piece...lol(-:

Ok..First of all, the curse of the lemon meyer!! But have no fear, you can prevail! Immediately, I mean immediately, I would get that plant out of the soil ASAP.... That soil your using, has been the DEATH of all mine when I first began. It holds way too much water, a perched water table which citrus HATE in our growing regions, no matter what the product claims, and it holds way to much residue fertilizer salts that can turn leaf tips brown. Your roots should look a healthy white. Take a peak while you are add it, if not, it is killing your tree fast. Therefore the branches dying..Root rot kills the branches, but first the leaves drop, usually green and or yellow..The leafs drop green if under watered and root damaged has taken hold.. Is there a way you can STRAIN out all the peat moss in that soilless mix you bought? Please let me know..I will give you a great idea? Do you have quick access to good nursery mix? You live in Ohio? You need to keep your tree on the dry side with such a lack of sunlight, and make sure it absolutely needs watering before you do it again.. Let us leave it at here, until you change the soil..Nothing else is going to help it, until you first take this step. That soilless mix is junk! Sorry..:-( Let me know when you have done the first step, and or if you want too.. I will then guide you from there..You NEED to put that plant in a FAST draining soilless mix, that dries out rather rapidly. One that is porous and provides great gas exchange after each watering. One that allows the salts to flush out at each watering. One that allows you to feed at every watering. One that provides oxygen and does not suffocate the roots..Does not take too long to dry out, or compact:-) There might still be hope. How much sun does it get? How are the temps? What size, kind of pot is it in? How long has it been taking the soil mix to dry out? What kind of water do you provide it with? Do you use vinager? What kind of analysis, or how high is the ph of your water? What are your cultural habits in detail.. Mike

Coloredthumb, Thank you for all the interesting information. I have never been fond of chimes, but I think I had only ever heard the tiny tinkly ones. They are irritating to me. My DH always wanted a wind chime even though he knew I DID NOT like them. When ever the kids asked what he would like, he would say a wind chime. I always voiced my opinion of that idea. Dh is hard of hearing and can't hear high pitched sounds, so he could not even hear the sounds that were so irritating to me. One year for Christmas I stopped in to check out some windchimes at a store that carries bird stuff. I was very impressed with those nice deep sounding chimes. This was only a couple days before Christmas and I didn't have a gift for DH yet. In desperation I spent a fortune on a chime for him, so it would have a nice deep sound. We both enjoy it. I know NOTHING about music and the only key I know is to unlock a door, but the thought of lots of chimes working together is fastenating. In our Patio home community we are too close to put the chime out, but there is one house a couple blocks away that has an obnoctious sounding one. I feel sorry for the neighbors.
