created just to make my neighbors and Dh say... "what the...???" LMAO!

it's really tall, over 15' I couldn't reach the top branches so I had to be creative with pole pruners to perch those bottles up there. They are on wire that is coiled around the ends of the branches.

I know it's not blue but this is my yellow bed

That is a hoot...you could go out and night and change the bottles to another batch a different color...then tell them it must be the sun changing the old glass color, lol. It is a bottle tree regardless of color. Just a lot of people prefer the blue to follow some old traditions. Like people in the south paint the under roof of their porches a certain blue to keep away the dirt daubers who will not build on that blue. Must think it is water, lol. Thanks for sharing.

Neighbor guy calls Dh and says, "soooo, are the bottles going to bloom?"

Dh replies, "stay tuned, I don't think she's done yet"

Thanks all! To clarify, the plates are all glass. I got the plain blue ones at Dollar Tree for a buck apiece, the rest of the clear glass items I got at Goodwill. I used the glass paint on the clear glass items to give them some contrasting color to the cobalt blue back plates. Feel free to post your glass plate creations so we can all be inspired!

Thank you everyone for your compliments! I played with ideas for a bottle tree for years before I actually made one. I have an idea for another bottle tree but I need to see if I can find any red or white bottles. Bamasue, the bottle tree is about 6 feet tall by 5 feet wide and the 1x1 foot cinder block that forms the base is mostly buried in the ground. I didn't use any concrete to hold the pipes in place so that the tree could be easily moved or dismantled (in case of a hurricane!). I actually traded with my neighbor for the pipes, I had a copper/brass sample muffler for a big truck siting in my back yard that just happened to be the same weight as the bundle of copper pipes I needed. The muffler had been sitting in a storage closet at work (I in the engineering dept. of a firetruck manufacturer) and was going to be thrown away when the closet was cleaned out. Instead it ended up coming home with me and sat in my yard for several years. I love going over and checking out what my neighbor has in his yard. For a living he collects and recycles scrap metal as well as strips out buildings that are marked for either demolition or remodeling. Sometimes he brings home the neatest stuff!

Can not imagine 'dopeheads' being anywhere but here. The fire had to put a lot of shock through your nervous system, seeing what you were losing and not knowing where or when it would stop. Traumatic. Dopers stripe their own home of copper and live in darkness. We have thought about a small community garden to get them slowly involved - nothing yet. Life is full of sour happenings it seems, that can become very polarizing. Gardening is great therapy for me - mentally and physically. I am aware that I shut down at times because so much needs to be done now (or what can be put off). This happens more often than I want. Oh, "blue bottles" are suppose to capture the worst spirits my sis said. I am going for all blue now, because of living here. It would not surprise me to awake tomorrow and the tree be totally stripped. I got radishes yesterday and the Dahlias keep coming up. I quit counting. Time to pot up some more rooted cutting this coming week. ........life in the fast lane.

Evelyn,Schmitt Sohne Riesling wine (the one with the ads about the "little German" with the tiny German man...)comes in beautiful cobalt blue bottles - you can get it at Publix and Sams. I bought it for the bottle and found out the wine is ok too. The labels are easy to soak off too - esp compared to some! I like the bottle tree Karalyn, I might do one like that for a different "species" in my yard - what you're doing with the plantings around it will be nice when you finish it. I want to see it! LOL!!!! Thanks for the laugh before work. I have some smaller bottles green and blue...but with the 50mph winds we get around here I'm afraid to make one!!! I love yours.

That is really cute. Did you paint the tree white? that really adds a lot to the whole scene!!! I think it would be funny to do something crazy so your neighbor and DH could say hmmmmmmm...lol You could get some fake flowers and cut off the stems and stick them on the ends of the bottles....(-: I think it looks great as is though(-; My DH thought I was nuts doing my bottle tree but when I got it all finished he liked it. Everyone who sees it enjoys it too so its been a real conversation piece...lol(-:

That is a nice bottle tree, maybe hang some dangly things off the sides of the branches, small wind chimes, etc.

You should really "show them" and go out at night and put faux flower bunches coming out of the bottles and then you'll have the last laugh!!!

LOL! I painted it a vibrant chalk yellow color. I truely cannot believe it's still standing in 60 mph winds - I could only "plant" the dang thing 2.5' because I found the top of the septic pipes

I've picked up a varigated yellow leaf honey suckle to train up in, and yes I want chimes and feeders and maybe... thousands of amber color half gems...
