I planted "How Sweet It Is" last year and it was TERRIFFIC! Not only was it extra sweet, it lasted a couple weeks on the stalk with no change in flavor. Unfortunately, the raccoons got to eat more of it than we did. I finally put up a solar powered electric fence(from Tractor Supply Co.) and managed to get a late crop of Ruby Queen (all to myself...). The only down side was that many of the "How Sweet" stalks blew over after a big storm, so I jury rigged wires on either side of the rows, midway up the stalks 7 mounded some dirt to help re-support - well worth it. I will be ordering more next week. This time from HenryFields.com($25 coupon) - they are affiliated with Gurneys someway or another. They say their seed is "treated" - I don't recall Gurney's being treated. I'm going with (3) different sh2 types this year - main crop will be "That's Delicious" - supposed to be sturdier?, and depending on the temps I'll plant "Northen Xtra-Sweet" early or late...and I'll squeeze in some more "How Sweet It Is". Fertlizing and warm soil is key, but the "Northern Extra Sweet" says it'll take cooler temps... Last year I wished I had bought more sh2 seed to plant subsequent rows - nobody in Cincinnati carried sh2 or even heard of it...This winter, I have already seen an sh2 at Lowes...

Thanks for replying. Do I have to worry more about Honey Select pollinating the white sh2, or the sh2 pollinating the Honey Select? With only 8 days maturity difference, can I successfully grow the 2 if I stagger planting 1 week? What if I grow the sh2 west (upwind) of the Honey Select? Or should I just try to grow 1 or the other and not both, or 2 Triplesweets? I also have Avalon & Serendipity. Honey Select and How Sweet It Is are my 2 favorites, but I got behind here and didn't get the 2nd bed freed up til now. Actually, I already planted Honey Select in the 1st bed around Memorial Weekend but a helper "weeded" the bed by mistake, so I just retilled it. The 2nd bed I waited for the strawberries to ripen and then pulled the plants and amended the bed all in a day (yesterday.) The first bed to the west, I ammended and cut plugs already and filled the plugs with ProMix, I find seeds sprout sooner and more reliably, plus spacing is already laid out. I didn't cut plugs yet in the 2nd bed yet until I decide which variety will go in it--H.S.I.I. does better a little further apart than Honey Select which has smaller flags...otherwise both beds are ready... I don't know how the corn will do this late--it won't be harvested until early-mid September, when it will start cooling down. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the input. Attached link indicates that Kandy Kane should last 10-14 days. I checked the corn, it was almost ready, two days later went down and took enough for supper, it was great. two days after that went down for serious harvest and processing-we freeze it-and it was past prime. Been gardening and judging when corn is ready for over 45 years, so don't think that's the problem. Zone 6, SE Ohio, what more can I say? Elevation is 810 feet, 360 degree exposure, rown run N-S. Corn is planted in rows (garden way seeder) 15" apart, 6 rows wide and 25 feet long. I remember as a kid in the 50's here, when the corn came in we'd feast for a couple of weeks. Had to repeatedly go over the patch feeling the ears to get the ones that were ready. No idea what the variety was....:-( By posting this I was hoping that I'd get a clue to a "quasi-heirloom" in line with not having to harvest it all as soon as the first one looked OK. I still think the weather had something to do with it. Been growing San Marzano tomatoes for years, this year's harvest was awful. 24 plants and 14 quarts in the freezer.
