i want dwarf trees but can't find any online sources in canada.

I too am having trouble finding places to order from close by. I hate to order something from the West Coast as I am sure that they would die as they have in the past. I am located in Middle Tennessee on the Kentucky border by Ft. Campbell.

I've ordered from Bay Laurel on-line several times. They have a very informative web site, with lots of great information about their stock. I found it especially enlightening for the beginning fruit tree buyer. I'm waiting for a delivery in January for an Eva' Pride on Nemaguard root stock, which has been mentioned as doing well on the Fruit Forum by folks in warm weather zones, being close to Elberta in taste. This was what I was hoping for. I planted a dwarf - Bonanza - I think, 2 years ago. It is only about 4 ft. tall - and am hoping to keep it close to 5 or so, in it's present location. It gave quite a hefty number of nice peaches - but a bit less tangy than I had hoped for. Still it is young yet, and perhaps hasn't reached its stride, but seems to be happy here. It never ceases to amaze me - with the variety that they manage to produce - fruit that originally meant to grow in colder climates and now can thrive in small places and warmer weather. Bejay

Raccoon, Don't waste your money on those 'fruit tree stakes'. Most fruit trees don't really even need fertilizing - and if you're giving them a high-nitrogen fertilizer, it may just compound your problem with it NOT fruiting - if you're 'pushing' vegetative growth, there's no impetus for your tree to switch over to the 'production' mode. Again, as TedP indicated, some apple varieties require more chill-hours than they'll get in the Deep South; reputable nurseries shouldn't sell high-chill varieties to folks in low-chill areas.

dirtslinger, I did a search and I'm sorry to report that my suggestion has proved also fruitless. I had met Ms Hoag at "Canada Blooms", a large garden show that's held in the Toronto area for many years and seen her on TV and heard on many radio gardening shows so that my suggestion to enquire at her nursery was genuine in my belief she was still in business. Evidently, that's not the case any more. Sad! Still, I suggest you e-mail some of the larger nurseries in your area and ask them where or who might lead you to your plant.

dawnrenee, Are you looking for someplace you can buy them here in Oklahoma? If you're open to the idea of ordering them online and having them shipped, there are several good nurseries that sell quality stock at reasonable prices and that ship. Stark Brothers, based in Missouri, is one, and another one I like is Bob Wells Nursery in Lindale, TX. Both have websites so you can order online. WCE5204...I'm not sure how far you would be from this nursery (also in Tennessee) but I have considered driving down from Michigan, so its likely you're significantly closer.

I think DNA Gardens, [Alberta] has some plums growing on dwarf root stock [western sand cherries].
