How about a flower box and make the grill a small Trellis, or a small pond

I have more than one old barbeque grill around the yard.
one keeps a bag of potting dirt in it, and the other has some potted plants, waiting for me to get to them...the cover protects from the rain and cold..

these are the round ones and the rectangle ones are even better, for the size to hold potting dirt.
I close the damper slides and keep the little trowels inside it.

they can be spray painted and made into planters...
since they're portable, they can be moved to any part of the yard, without much fuss.

sitting next to a raised garden bed is very handy, for keeping gloves, spray bottle and pruners...

I think it's just the look of it, that most don't like.but it you decorate it...it can be really fun....paint lady bugs on it or base paint it yellow and paint on some sunflowers...

Becky, that is a great idea for holding potting soil and tools.
I'm keeping my soil in a 5 gal. bucket with lid, have to shove the bag of soil in then put lid on it. Then I have to move it to where I want to work. BBQ pit is so much better. right heighth also. Keeps everything together. Thanks for sharing.

Don't remember where I saw it but someone had taken an old gas grill and transformed it into a potting cart. It had the wooden shelves on either side and an extra shelf (rack) inside. She had painted it, left the redwood shelves as they were, an used the bottom shelf (where the gas bottle would have set) as a pot holder. She had wired an old milk crate to hold the pots. Where the utencils use to hang is where she hung her trowels, gloves etc. It was really neat. If my memory serves me right the biggest share of it was painted yellow with black legs. Hope this gives you some additional ideas on what you might do with your grill.

I remember that potting cart, too, Ellens! It was really cute. I tried to find it using the "search" feature, with no luck. Maybe somebody has it in thier "clippings"?

If it is a round kettle grill you can use it as a form for the top of a very large hypertufa mushroom.

Thank you! I knew that you guys would come up with something! That is perfect, looks just like the frame I would have to work with. Hoping to make my first tipsy pots in the coming weeks. I haven't done an old GAS grill but I've done the small round with the criss cross legs done up as a planter. Even though it didn't last long (rust and a HOT climate) it sure was fun. Here's the photo. If I ever get a NEW gas grill I'll have to do something creative with my old one.

I too had a small weber type grill I used as a planter. That and an old cooler were perfect deck planters, especially together. My grill bit the dust last year. That one came with my husband and out lasted its usefulness as a grill. I have my eye out at the sales for another cast off.
The gas grill into a potting bench was all the talk about three years ago. I suppose it has all fallen into the deep abyss.

On nov 5 2005 I copied and pasted a grill potting bench on a document. That is what I do to keep pics to inspire me. I did not put an acknowledgement. I did not keep a jpg.

I can describe it. Maybe I can link it here if anyone knows how. It is like the black one but it kept the covered grill part...which is painted blue. There is a yellow sign on it that says "Pot It Up". rest painted black. There is a yellow mailbox on the left (wood slate removed)that says Potting Tools. The wire rack was left on the bottom. There are covered buckets below that probably hold dirt and such. One Yellow and one white. the four slate on the right are painted black and it looks like there are hook screwed into the bottom of the support to maybe hold tools.

the building it is in front of is a blueish white? and is in board and batten style (wide boards with the little firing type strips on the seams) There are tree trunks put in behind it as a garden border?

Maybe I will email it to you. Sorry I can not post but maybe the description will jiggle a memory and they will repost.

Here is the picture of mine (the one twomonths was describing). It it really handy for potting up plants. I left my gloves and small tools in the mail box all winter and they were all dry when I went to use them this spring. On the inside of the grill, I lined it with thin metal. The potting soil can fall through the racks but not out of the grill. No waste.
