Cleaning my grill on GE48inch monogram cooktop

HELP-

I have just started using my new gas cooktop with grill and griddle, after 20+ years of cooking on a Electric JennAir cooktop and grill.

I have used my new grill twice, and I just can't get the grates clean. We are always grilling- does anyone who has this cooktop or range have any suggestions?

Also while cooking, everything seems to stick. on my old grill I would just spray cooking spray and it was fine. Not working with these grates.. have also used oil.. still the burgers were sticking bad..

Mine stuck a small amount at first but after using it a few times I have no problem. I just spray it will pan spray or wipe with a paper towel with oil on it. How are you cleaning it? I just used a wire brush and then wiped it down with paper towels for the first few times. It is like seasoning a cast iron skillet.

Ditto paddy99. The grates need to be seasoned before you use them, and then every once in a while when stuff seems to be sticking.
A wire brush like one for a bbq is perfect for cleaning.
The will never look perfect once they've been used. It's a grill, after all - but they really shouldn't stick after you've seasoned them.
Once they've been seasoned, just clean them as you would a bbq. Turn the gas on high for a minute to burn off any excess stuff, then scrub gently with a wet wire brush.

Are you talking about the oven (and not the grill or griddle)? If so, the main over doesn't take any longer to preheat than our older non-pro oven (which was a stand-alone unit and not part of a range). However, one nice thing about the 48 inch ranges is that you get a much smaller side oven that will be sufficient for most oven uses (it will hold a full sized pyrex dish). That oven heats up much quicker than any oven I have ever worked with before. But as to exact times, I haven't the faintest clue. If I remember, I will measure the heating times this evening after I get home from work. Jay

It sounds like you are struggling with the same choice that I am - I've also narrowed it down to these 2 options for an LP 36" drop-in cooktop. One thing you might want to consider (as I am) is the warranty. The DCS one (from their manual, you can find on-line) is for 1 year FULL parts & labor covering the entire product + 5 years limited stainless steel main tops, parts only. The GE one (again from on-line manual) is a 1 year LIMITED warranty for parts & labor on entire product. I am meeting with an appliance guy tomorrow (who sells both) to pick his brain on the differences between the two options some more. I'll let you know what I find out - if you discover anything, please post! I've got to finalize this decision this week.

Thanks for the feedback. I would really like to hear from somebody that has the Wolf grill how the veggie/hamburger grilling is. Another thing that irks me with the Wolf is the fact that the grill cover is not at the same height with the burner grates on each side. The monogram has it where the grill and the burner grates are all even so you have a 36 inch wide continuous surface. I really like Wolf, but more I think about it, their AG just does not appeal me. Plus they will be re-designing the model. Capital does not have a dual fuel right? For under $6000 with a discount, to me the Monogram seems like a great deal as a dual fuel professional stove. Not much raving about it, but also not much complaints either.

I have the Monogram 48" 4-burner/griddle/grill, and use the grill constantly--steaks, double-cut pork chops, fresh sausage, portobello caps, flatbread pizza, bell pepper slices, lamb burgers, swordfish. I have a Monogram 1200 CFM hood, and have never yet had to use the highest of the 4 settings. Re cleaning, my approach is to treat the grill like a cast iron pan--I want to develop a non-stick coating on the grill, and therefore wouldn't put the parts in the dishwasher. I clean it while it's still warm, with the same tough wire brush I use on the outdoor charcoal grill, followed by a wadded-up paper towel soaked in vegetable oil, held by tongs. Couldn't be happier with the results.

I am not sure of the GE Monogram grate construction. I have the Bluestar grill and it has very heavy cast iron grates that seemed to be pretty well pre-seasoned on delivery. I finished it off with the usual routine of peanut oil on hot grates and then routine cooking which is the finishing touch. I also use a grill brush (brass only) to knock off burned on food and the finish up with a light coat of peanut oil. Once in a while (once or twice a year) I wash them in a sink with very hot water and plastic brush, dry well with a towell then heat the grates with the grill or in an oven and finish up again with peanut oil. They stay well seasoned this way and rarely stick.

I have had this grill for about 3 years. First, the grates are cast Stainless Steel not cast iron so they will not rust. Cleaning is simple. Turn the grill to high and leave it there until all burns off and all smoke stops. Brush with a SS BBQ brush and you are done. Twice a year we place the grates in the oven when we run the self clean cycle spring and fall. They come out like new.

thank you all for your help! Just like my new dishwasher drawers there is a definate learning curve! I will certainly be using all of your suggestions. We have only grilled twice, so hopefully it will get better.
