Sageretia Theezans Brown Leaf Tips turning brown
Comments (1)The most common causes are over/under-watering, too high a level of soluble salts in the soil (plasmolysis aka fertilizer burn), too much sun @ midday. The 'over-watering' issue could be from a collapsing or poor soil, even if you think you're not over-watering. When you're growing in a shallow pot, even a soil that supports only a half inch of perched water is unacceptable. If your pot is 3" deep and the bottom 1/2" of the soil is saturated, that is about 17% of the soil saturated - enough to root roots, impair root function, and cause the marginal or tip necrosis you inquire about. Comments (6)Many thanks to those who have responded. To nanw: I think that you nailed the ID of the plant. To greenman28: the subject plant has linear, tapered leaves, and does not look like the usual Kalanchoe leaf. The new leaves on the edge are also different from the usual "Mother of Millions" plants, in that they do not have root structures, and may expand to look almost the same as the original "mother" leaf. To tapla: thanks for the explanation, and the stimulus for me to try to find more about the frequency of occurence of this process in epiphyllum. I did not find any relevant information, so I again turn to forum members. Is this a frequent phenomenon in members of the epiphyllum family? At this moment, I have learned a lot about the family, and have acquired knowledge of the amazing beauty and variety of a plant group I had somehow ignored. I missed the fact that it was a cactus (it does not look like the usual cactus), and thus missed the clue that cactus leaves are "different", and may develop daughter plants from their "leaves". Thanks again for your help!!...See MoreBrowing at Vanda growing tip
Comments (5)I hate to say but could be a burn mark from water reflecting in sunlight...but I fear the other can be root rot, This can sometimes happen if water gets traped inside the new growth and not enough air and sunlight to dry it out before damage. I Recently lost a vanda due to several factors. First moving from one apartment to another. Secondly ,a severe weather change went from 100 % humidity and 85 degrees to 30 % humidity and windy and low fourties. I was too busy spraying the bare roots to notice damage was going on in the tip. I saw yellow leaves on bottom removed them thinking it was from the shock of cold weather. I also know some times vandas loose bottom leaves as they grow. But..hidden up above was traped water damage?. How do the lower leaves look? Has the plant been getting sun in mornings shade afternoons and a lot of humidity? Chances are not so and spraying could have been traped as said .Vandas need a good air circulation to dry out as well. Explain what the plant has been through and where you are and is this a staped leave or semi terete? Is this bare root in a hanging basket or poted ?What is the filler surrounding it if any? Tell me what the plant is in..Thanx...See MoreOne growth tip cutting, lost the growth tip...
Comments (11)I belive all those little "eyes" can grow new branches if left after the top breaks, so you might get 3 or four branches coming out below the break. Just be carefully not to touch any fragile new buds. ( also, I'm not a pro, my plants are now 4 days in my care, but with no suicides yet.)...See Morejean001a
