yellow straggling peace lily

Hi all, I've just been asked to 'rescue' a peace lily by a friend. I actually don't think there's anything wrong with its growth, it's just that all its leaves are yellow so it looks a bit ugly. The leaves look a bit old too; they're starting to straggle.

I suspect that the poor thing has been over fertilised or given too much sun - I'm pretty sure it's not overwatering.

For the moment, I'm worried about the apeparance - how to go about removing the yellow leaves to encourage new (and green) leaves to grow. How do you cut leaves? Diagonally at the stem? Vertically? Should i water the cuts? Will anything grow afterwards?

ARRGH assistance would be great; I've never dealt with a yellow peace lily before!
