Strange worms in house plant
Comments (2)That's not a lot to go by, as far as a description, but it sounds like the common garden millipede. These would find their way into the containers of houseplants that have spent summers outside, or that have been recently purchased from a location where housekeeping was not a priority. They are attracted to moist, dark environments. Outside, they'll be found under piles of mulch, in window wells, gutters, etc. Inside, look for them in basements or lurking inside the drainage hole of your plants. They feed on organic matter, but will eat tender roots and shoots. I'd purchase some horticultural grade diatomaceous earth to sprinkle around the saucer. That will get 'em....See MoreSmall grey and pink worms in my house plants
Comments (6)Yep, I've had earthworms in pot plants before too. They don't do any harm, of course, but they're certainly a surprise! ... And potting mix with weed seeds could have all sorts of other visitors in it! I agree with Rhizo. We can't tell what kind of worms your plants have unless we see some pictures....See MoreBSF eating my worms out of the house?
Comments (16)"Should I just dump the whole bin on an outdoor compost pile? Is it always this difficult? If I try it again with a new batch of worms, how can I make sure I don't get BSF taking over again? Is a tray system better? " The bsf larva are there because you OVERFED YOUR WORMS. It is not difficult at all if you don't OVERFEED YOUR WORMS. They wont take over again if you DON'T OVERFEED YOUR WORMS. The tray system would only be better if you DON'T OVERFEED YOUR WORMS. Your next question might be how do I NOT OVERFEED MY WORMS? Make sure that they eat all that you feed them last time and wait a day then give them some more. It can not get much simplier. If they are not eating enough then you have not got enough worms....See MoreLooking for a new home for my worm bin
Comments (3)The other option is Craig's List. I know this post is old, but I have been searching Craig's list for a system. I had a three-tier system in So. Cal. When we moved to NC, I gave it to a friend. I definitely regret giving it away. With that in mind, you can clean it out and store it until you have an appropriate place....See Moreldmv98
