A wondering Jew, Probally Tradescantia fulminensis(please correct spelling:))

The leaves are pretty small for it to be a Tradescantia. Likely some kind of Callisia, a ground cover/vine. Maybe C. cordifolia. That could be confirmed if blooms show up on it in a couple/few months.

To keep it as full as possible, trim the longest pieces occasionally and stick the cut ends back in the soil. Trimming off the growth tip of any of the vines will cause side shoots to start growing, whether just a tiny section or much longer one is removed.

Hanging it as high as possible will allow the vines to really show off what they can do.

That being said, I am not positive that is what this is. I had that exact same plant and was told it was a wandering jew.

Lauraeli, hi! I've been researching this plant for years. That's the closest name I or anyone I've asked over the years can supply for it. I've asked here on NTP in a discussion I bump back to life about once a year, here in HP periodically, and on the NTP section of other forums, including Dav that which can't be named (which seems to have more international users.)

It's definitely diff from C. repens, I have both and there are many diffs between them, primarily those blooms which would never go unnoticed by any owner of this plant. They stick out from the plant several inches, noticeable from a distance. When the blooms finish, the flower stems are discarded. This plant has lighter green leaves that are thicker and more pointed, not purple on back, farther nodes, fatter/thicker reddish stems.

Very hard to research because a significant number of reputable sources show pics of this plant and call it C. repens. The name C. cordifolia can't be confirmed via pictures (the last time I did a 'round of searches, in the fall) but if one deciphers a written key, (which I solicited help with in NTP but got no responses and muddled through alone,) this plant most closely matches C. cordifolia over other choices. There are many Callisias described in a key that can't be visually confirmed so I am not 100% sure, and I'm not well versed in botanical anatomy jargon.

I've written to professors from various .edu sites asking for help/clarification, but none of those willing to write back had anything helpful to say, one would not admit they are 2 diff plants, one agreed they were different but never wrote back again with a name for the other plant. From these discussions, it was suggested that possibly this plant is C. repens and the other one always sold under that name as a house plant is some other, unnamed plant. Glasshouse Works said they couldn't confirm a name, but agreed they are 2 diff plants. Maddening!

A friend recently bought me this house plant, I don't know much about plants so I have no idea what it is or how to look after it.

Hi Tjroo, welcome to GW! That's a Sansevieria cylindrica with some kind of textured paint on it. There's a Sansevieria forum, where you should find more existing discussions about this plant, if you're interested in reading some.
