You must live in an area with no birds, or else you are growing these berries indoors. If I tried to leave ripe blueberries on the shrub for an extra 4 weeks, the birds would have them all, before I could harvest any.

Ya, this is in the greenhouse. It could be done outdoors with netting. I would have thought the flavor would be lost with fruit hanging this long. But this is a strong taste I haven't had elsewhere and worth the effort.

Did you say on another post that you had 20 bushes and got three gallons of fruit? I'm getting a gallon per potted bush. And that's with a lot of pruning out of small wood and thinning fruit. I had very good foliage this year and was extra hard thinning so may be below a gallon per bush but not much.

I may have said this before, but i read a paper about tunnel growing in Spain. Their tomato yield was 10X that of what you we see out of an open tomato field in Florida (during winter). I can't believe more operations don't move under plastic. So many less pests/diseases to deal with, birds and squirrels. The Chinese have 1000's of acres under "glass"...even peaches.

I wonder why more people on this forum don't seem interested in a greenhouse or high tunnel. I'm growing an amazing array of fruit with only about 4 sprays of insecticidal soap so far this year. I'd post more about all the things I've harvested this year but don't want to be seen as bragging. Right now I've got ripe apricots, pluot, nectarine, blueberries, and sweet cherries. Lots of others could be doing the same for the cost of a used car.

Actually, blueberries hang on my bushes well into October here. The only problem is, once the nights start to cool off in mid-August, the final ripening ones have almost no flavor. They are often quite sweet, but bland and blah. Even the birds don't take them much.

In Texas, though, I doubt cold nights are an issue this time of year.
