Garden Wreath in Progress (pic)

Ok. The last project for now. The garden wreath. I painted plywood a few different colors then hot glued as many tree branch things as I had accumulated. Now I have to wait until the snow melts to go hunting for more things to pile on top until it looks right.

BTW there are two in the pic so the hole in the middle isn't showing. I'm terrible at taking pictures.

Are those round thingies slices of branches?

Are there 2 wreaths? It looks like one behind the other. It is a neat idea. You will have to post a picture of it after you are done. Don't forget to add some nuts and pinecones!

Digdauberza: they are texas tomato cages. Expensive but so worth it because we threw the garden together pretty quickly. This is my first year and my husband made 2 raised beds, a compost bin, and had to do all the hard labor since I am over 8 months pregnant. We were going to make CRW cages but we ran out of time. We are really happy with our texas tomato cages. They are strong and best of all fold up flat so during the winter they will hang up in the garage. The cages showing are only 1/2 height they will be. We will probably attach the top part of the cages next weekend. In addition they also sell extensions if you have very tall plants.

Thanks for the maple images, amazingly with some 230 cultivars in my database I don't have most of those listed! I'll buy a few maples from Topiary Gardens for sure. The graft listed date feature is SUPURB, I wish conifer growers did that. I'd love to be able to lable exactly how old some of my plants are. coniferjoy, thanks for the compliment and the corrections! I always welcome advice, name changes, critisism, etc. as I am just a new conifer 'fish' and learning a lot as I go. The great thing about these lables and plant markers is that I have been able to effortlessly remove lables that are misspelled and make new ones for pennies on the dollar. I am anxiously awaiting spring so I can watch all these little guys start going. Indeed, I have visions of having well meshed vistas of conifers of all shapes, sizes, colors and textures. Walking around Coenosiums gives an amazing perspective on how impressive a mixed conifer garden really is. These three images just put me at a loss of words. Shot this fall at Coenosiums.

Hrm, that might work for my beds built out of wood, but 5 of my beds are built out of recycled plastic timbers - I'll have to figure out a better way than nails to attach those ones. As far as the seedlings, I found that instead of cutting an X like you do for transplants, I made a circle (3 inches in diameter or so) and then put little rocks around the seedling on the black plastic, it kept the plastic from flapping and damaging the seedlings. This does allow for a "couple" weeds to grow, but it's almost non existent, and still gives you the benefits of warming the soil, water retention, etc.. No matter how "tight" you get the plastic across the bed, when you cut those X's they are going to flap in the wind, so you need something localized to hold them down. Thanks for the ideas, I'll have to think about how I will secure them, as I really love the plastic.

That is nice. I had seen once either on Trading Spaces or Home Extreme Makeover where they took slices of a tree trunk or branch and adhered them to a tabletop. Then they grouted them and made a diningroom table out of it! It was fantastic. Yours has that same charm....

Something like that would be good to set terra cotta flower pots on if it were made level.

Susie - Great idea! I could make the middle hole larger on a few more and place the flower pot in the middle! that was look great! Great idea. I have a forest full of tree branches to play with. I love that idea! Thx so much. If it ever turns to spring, that's exactly what I'll do. (Have to wait for a temporary thaw tho so I can go wrestle me up some more branches and slice them up with my handy saw zaw.
