Tammy's 1 month garden progression with pics

Hey Everyone, I just thought I would share my one month pics. They are on my blog and I tried to just put the pics from my blog into this post but for some reason blogger won't let me do it.

This is my first year gardening and so far my babies are doing ok but any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Tammy, where did you get those round tomato cages? They look different from the ones that I have, all the circles are the same size, rather than smaller at the bottom, then getting bigger at the top. They also look like a stronger wire?
Everything looks very nice!

Nice boxes!!!!! I am tired of using my back area of my 2000 sq. foot garden for my veggies so this year I am building above ground as well,next to the other HUGE gardens which will now be used for just perennials, hostas and all my ohter annuals I grow every year...which is what it was suppose to be used for! Thanks for the photos! I was wondering how deep to make them and your photos were very helpful!

Progress after one month -- a few pics

Odiegirl, You're not crazy!! This house came with no vent (a long time later I found that the cold drafts were coming from a grille underneath the cooktop which I assume was in a space meant for a downdraft, but it didn't have one). Instead, there was a gas cooktop half underneath a window! At least it's an underpowered cooktop. I added the red hood above just to be able to cook. (Now, I have to find a good home for the red hood but haven't yet...) More photos of the work so far are in my online diary at www.jcskitchen.net. I got sick in the middle of this (a cold, I think) so the text is less detailed in weeks 3 and 4, but the pictures are there. Re courage, one day I just decided all my distractions (parental surgery, etc.) had resolved themselves, and I told myself it was time to just do it. That threw me out of research mode and into action. I made necessary compromises and started spending money. Once you buy your appliances getting the rest done becomes downhill movement, i.e., easy. :)

Congratulations to her. She looks like she is on her way to recovery! True story, my nephew at about 21 years old broke both of his femurs also and is pretty much recovered. His friends and him were all wearing helmet cams while dirt bike riding over some moogles. He crossed a road, went down the ditch and flew back up the side, when his body went up and front legs landed on the handle bars, flipping over foward. The whole incident was recorded and on facebook! Well tonight he was at a family dinner, walking just like it never happened. It took a couple years to get close to normal and I am so happy when I see him safe in good health. Your gdd looks really good next to the bike! Makes me hopeful for her future too.

Hi Connie, Thank You so much for the reminder. I meant to come back to this post as I had taken a picture. Good Grief, my mind these days! I received from Connie lots of goodies and I do appreciate all the thoughtfulness she put in my box. I got Dragon Fruit (so excited over this!) 2 other succulent type plant cuttings. some makeup, solar light, an owl bank , windchimes, and some crochet yarn. Ohh, an several packs of seeds. Love getting seeds! I grow all kids of things in my little jungle..lol! It was a great packed box with lots of variety! Hope I didn't miss anything. I am so grateful and thankful to all who sent me a box, it brightened my days!! Thanks again Connie! Have a beautiful day everyone! Tammy

Looks like everything is growing well. The wood topper makes the cinderblock bed look so nice. How did you attach the wood?

Digdauberza: they are texas tomato cages. Expensive but so worth it because we threw the garden together pretty quickly. This is my first year and my husband made 2 raised beds, a compost bin, and had to do all the hard labor since I am over 8 months pregnant.

We were going to make CRW cages but we ran out of time.

We are really happy with our texas tomato cages. They are strong and best of all fold up flat so during the winter they will hang up in the garage. The cages showing are only 1/2 height they will be. We will probably attach the top part of the cages next weekend.

In addition they also sell extensions if you have very tall plants.

i asked my husband about the woodtopper/bench and he said he push 2 x 4 down the holes of the cinderblock where they were snugh (but be careful of using too much force as you do not want cinderblcoks to crack/break)...then he was able to secure the wood boards to the cinder blocks.

it is so nice to have the little bench. i can sit and weed or just admire my plants. also we had a huge baby shower and it was extra seating ;)
