If they are dead there's no point. If they're not quite dead, and you want to try and revive them, then by all means. I've had some growing in containers for more than 4 months.

Didn`t know if those things still grow underground for a little bit after the "top greenery" had died off. I think I have read before, somewhere, that I need to leave them in the ground around 2 weeks or so if I want them for long term storage. I reckon I will start counting off the days! LOL!

If you dig them soon for long term storage, where will you store them? Sometimes the ground where they grew can be good storage for a few weeks.

Do not keep watering them after the tops have died back. The potatoes underground won't absorb water, so all you'll be doing is making it soggy down there which would promote rot.

Thank you! Wondered about that.

Tubers tend to have a growth spurt at the end of the plants life, so you do want to water then. But tubers sitting in wet earth will rot, so there's a balance there. Potatoes need to be watered - until they don't. ;-)

My crop isn't large enough to store for long, so I don't wait very long before getting them out of the ground and planting something else in their place.
