My husband bought me three pair if smartwool brand cable knit socks for Christmas. I don't care for them. They are pretty and a nice weight - not too thick or too thin and fit well in my snow boots - but they have an odd texture. It seems I can feel the individual threads when I walk. Also, there are two short diagonal seams in the heel that somehow end up under my heel, so that I'm walking on them. It feels like I have something inside the sock. Ugh. Back to the drawing board on my own hunt for the perfect socks. By the way, I do like the wigwam wool socks at Costco and like to wear them around the house in my slippers, but they are too thick to wear in shoes or boots. Also, the colors aren't quite right for me, as I prefer dark or black. Each pack of three pair contains either light grey, purple (that washes to a very bright color) and light blue. You can't get a three-pack of just the dark colors.

Thank you again so much. I cried long and hard this morning after everyone else left for school and work. The house is dreadfully quiet. Last night I woke up at 4:30 a.m. because I'm so used to having to get Casey up to go to the bathroom at around that time. It will be a while before I can sleep through the night again, I'm sure. Annz, what you said has helped me immeasurably to know I did the right thing. I was really thrown for a loop when the vet began discussing treating her and I've been plagued with guilt that I didn't think harder about giving it a try. I must have known in my heart that she was too far gone and that it was inevitable that the end was near either way. But hearing your words comforted me so much. My sister (the only other person I know personally who is as much a bonafide animal-crazy person as I am) told me essentially the same thing. She owns a pet-sitting business and they have had anywhere from 4-7 pets of their own (they, too, have had to put a couple of their pets to sleep during the past couple of years). She told me that renal failure is extremely serious and that Casey was so fortunate to have lasted as long as she did. It helps assure me that I did what was best for my girl. You're all right, though -- it really does just hurt like crazy. It almost takes my breath away at times. I'm grateful that I've been able to spill my heart out here, as I really have no one else who quite understands my grief, other than my sweet sister. In an odd way, I feel like the experience is giving me something, though. I hope this doesn't sound strange, but I've been grappling with feelings of guilt for all the things I didn't do for Casey (should have cleaned her ears and teeth more often, should have gotten her groomed more often, should have taken better care of her, should have walked her more, etc.) I suppose it's all a part of the grief, but it's pointed out to me not to take others for granted. There are a lot of things in my family life and even with friends, etc. that I realize I've been taking for granted, being "too busy" is really the excuse. I'm oddly comforted by the notion that I have the opportunity to stop taking these relationships for granted and really show them how much I care. I don't want to have "regrets" where anyone else is concerned. I don't mean any of this to sound strange. I know Casey had a good life and she absolutely knew she was loved. I just feel like maybe her legacy is to remind me how much I love not only her, but so many others in my life. I'll get through this one day at a time.

I have had so many I lost track, but I have a positive history. I had to follow a cancer protocol. At first I had another after 6 months, then once a year for a few years, then three years, and now 5 years. My history started at age 38. I most definitely would not be here alive today if I had not insisted on having one done at 38. I made a believer of my gastroenterologist. When you have a nagging feeling that something is wrong stand your ground! I have had several types of preps but I have absolutely refused to do the golytly gallon drink. I also stand up for the type of prep I will do and with as much experience as I have I know what works best for me. I did like the pills and I knew to take them as prescribed with the proper amount of water. Unfortunately because of some people having negative reactions not many doctors use them now. My latest one a little over a year ago was one of the newer split preps it was nasty tasting but I always chill it and use ice, a straw and hold my nose as I suck down as much as possible. Then immediately rinse my mouth with water. It really does work. I also always start taking a stool softener, NOT laxative!, 2 nights prior to the prep. It makes the movement much easier and less painful. Not being able to eat is difficult. I also buy my favorite soup from a restaurant and strain it for just liquid. I stock up on Popsicles. Depending on the Iv drug cocktail I might or might not remember anything. The latest version I didn't need to get Phenergan in the mix but I used to become extremely nauseous upon waking up and would vomit, with risk of aspiration. Demerol does that to me. So they knew to add some Phenergan to the Iv. It's not a fun process but I am alive because I did it! That's a very powerful statement. I will stand on a soapbox any day to help get that message across. I was 38 and the doctor said I probably would not have seen 40. I had no definitive symptoms, I had no blood, I had stools shaped like a U, a deep groove down the center. That was caused by the extremely large growth in my lower colon. My doctor decided he would go along with me just to make me feel better. He was shocked. Please get your colonscopy done.

Kirk, we know and love the fact you are a very sensitive guy. I'm so sorry your feelings were hurt by the DH bashing going on. But you've got to KNOW we LOVE YOU. We think YOU are SPECIAL. And you've also got to know that some guys really do deserve a little bashing here and there!!! LOL. But we love them and put up with them, just as they do with US. Sometimes us girls just have to let off a little steam regarding a DH tho, so please don't take it personal when we do that. You and Robert, and any guys who are on here, are a "breed apart".

I'm also glad that you put Kirkus' mind at ease about women's frustration with their husbands and men in general. I imagine our complaining is just one of the many things the men in our lives put up with us!

When I go to visit Bob at the hospital, I have a tendency to complain about things going on in my life. He lies there listening intently all the while probably worrying about whether he'll see his next birthday or not and then he comforts me! But I have a tendency to complain and then make fun of it. I think he knows that I'm like that.

Susie, you aren't the only one who needs to find size 11 peppermint shoes!

Oooohhhh, ms. sunshine, can I borrow your peppermint shoes? My over-flated, Texas tongue keeps me in hot water all the time.
I have a pair of pink, high heel shoes that I'm going to mosiac and put on the deck with DH's, planted work boots. I'm thinking about mosiacing them with starlight mints and shellacing the crude out of it. Then I'd have my own pair to put into my big mouth!

I agree, Karen, I need a closet full, maybe a pair for every day!!! Ms Susie started something here! Just wanted to let her know, shes not the only one!! I think its the stuff my hairdresser uses to keep me blonde! It runs into my brain and fries that part that is suppose to keep your mouth shut! I really try, but the words come out faster than my mouth can stay shut!Not that it is always onery stuff, but I just hafta give my opinion on everything and I cant stop it when it happens!!LOL!! blessings-sherri

Peppermint shoes...what an absolute trip!! Susie...how do you think up all this silly stuff? I love it! It makes my day!

I may have to make some for my garden...just to remind me of this!

Hmmmmmm...so I go to Goodwill and find some cute little size 5 shoes (My size 10s would take too much paint and too many flowers!!), paint them like peppermint sticks (White shoes would work great!) and plant some pink posies in them. Then, I'll put a little sign sticking out of them that reads, "Susie's Peppermint Shoes". Too cute!

Sandy, sounds like a plan to me! Susiesunshine maybe should have patented her idea and made some $$$$$$. Now we'll have Susie's Shoes everywhere, and she won't get a dime. Sad, very sad. Maybe I'll look for some white COWBOY BOOTS to paint stripes on. I use to tell people I "opened mouth, inserted foot, and forgot to take my boots off first". LOL.
Of course that was when I was a cowgirl, now I'm just an old computer-compulsive broad. Usually barefoot at that.
