Lamb's Ear Plant...

Can a Lamb's Ear plant be grown as a house plant? I purchased one today at a garage sale, not really knowing what it was. When I looked it up on the net, I realized that it's a perennial. It can be grown in my zone, but I think I would like it better as a house plant. The website I looked @ says it's a ground cover & very invasive, which reminds me of Wandering Jew, so I'm just curious if this would grow as well as a WJ... Anybody tried this?

You won't be able to provide sufficient light for this plant long term.

McHudd,,Lamb's Ears are hardy in our zone...the problem is, once you plant a section, man oh man do they take over..lol.
I've never tried growing one as a house plant, but since you have it why not give it a try? Don't you just love how soft it feels. I don't know if it'd hang though..lambs ears grow semi-tall, (not huge) but tall, especially when theyre in flower.
If you can keep cooler in winter, and give as much sun as possible, they just might make it. I don't know if they have to go through dormancy or not. What type of pot would you plant them in? Toni

I heard through a nursery that there is a beetle called the lambs ear beetle that lives in a lambs ear plant. This beetle is supposed to specifically eat thrips. The girl at the nursery said to plant lambs ear around the roses and the thrips would be controlled. Has anyone else heard this or had experience with it?

When new plants I buy get wilted like that... I usually just water them pretty thoroughly and put them in a somewhat shady area. Not full shade or anything but they usually perk right back up within a few hours even

Ya know, Peg, I think it just might be Mullein. I did sow a lot of seeds that year and there were several verbascums. I swear this one was labeled Giant Lamb's Ear but maybe that is just what that trader called it due to the resemblence. Maybe it will bloom for me so I can know for sure but, for now, I am going to assume that you are right. Thanks so much, I knew this forum was the place to ask!!! I just leave mine alone because I do very little garden clean up in the fall. In the spring, you can rake the dead leaves away. You might have to cut some areas but you'll see new growth coming up. That should be your goal. Get the old leaves cleaned up before raking will do much damage to the new growth.

I'm allergic to certain plants, and just looking at a Lamb's Ear makes me feel itchy, LOL. But they are very nice looking plants.
