Photos of new Grandbaby

Here are some photos of our new granddaughter born April 30th. (The date on the pictures is wrong.) Hollie Brielle is wrapped in the quilt Carol made and sent to Italy.

Sunnyca, you were right. Tyler was in Iraq for 2 years, driving supply trucks. We won't see our grandbaby for over a year. Sadness. I'm trying to figure out a way for Carol to fly to Italy this summer while I watch our little ones.

I'm also attaching a photo of Tyler. We are so proud of him.

At least now there are quick pictures on the internet!
When my daughter was born in Spain, the grandparents had to wait for photos to be developed and then mailed. They also had to be told by telegraph-LOL

Yes. Long ago, almost 10 years now, and far away, Soil, Compost and Mulch had a lovely room, where friends prone to hijack could visit for a minute before returning here to discuss compost and soil and mulch. It was a wonderful place, a popular place, where people became close friends. Longtime friends. Intimate friends. Friends, a hundred strong, who still get together with each other. When some members were unfairly, I still contend, sent on a permanent vacation (Be careful gnomey), there was a large exodus, the one Lloyd alludes to. Eventually, when the conversation had faded away in Conversations, it was deleted as a gathering place. A large group of us SCMers still get together. We vacation together. We meet in different places in the country. We call each other. 18 women and two men traveled to a state park in Maryland a year ago for an extended weekend. About a dozen of us went to D.C. two Januarys ago. We've named chickens after each other. We send each other compost as birthday presents on Feb. 13th. A New Yorker I met here bought a camp on my road. She's my neighbor now! and attends my camp road's annual pig roast. A fellow from Connecticut takes me dancing every once in a while, and I made him go ocean kayak/camping with me in September in retaliation. Anyway, I just hijack when I feel like it and apologize when it gets on someone's nerves.

The feelings you have are what many mothers of sons feel after their marriage...if that encounter made you feel outside a circle..its because you are...I also have to wonder what mothers of daughters are telling and teaching them about in laws.... They are mothers to grown children as well and have to know how a mother to an only son must feel...its really not the same as having a daughter and no one can say it is....I have seen how my DIL's look out for their mothers best interest at the risk of breaking a MIL's heart....my oldest DIL will exchange these looks with her mother as if no one is watching...like they are collluding telepathically...it is so juvenile... They have done this around me many times in my own home...and I hate being around them....my husband berates me if I even mention this is taking place....I am planning my exit out of this marriage and feel my DIL has ruined my family....my husband has never stood by me or supported me emotionally...and having a person enter your family...a small family at that and seemingly treat you poorly will create major conflicts in a marriage if one spouse tries to ignore the others pain...just an acknowledgement is fine.. If truth be told my husband does not care for his DIL but fears speaking up about it to me....obviously we are not going to last to 40 yrs happily.... One thing that parents of a son will do is extend themselves for fear of losing him completely...you say you have heart to hearts with her...but this is probably not the best move....a DIL will use information you give them against you later...in arguments with your son...I was told this by many women in the past....and believe it...my sister created a lot of tension with my DIL based on things that she would tell her when I was not around... We also extended ourselves by buying vaca property with my son and his wife....big mistake 10 yrs later....my son is now behaving more like an unhappy bus. partner....sending emails telling my husband he has not contributed as much financially...wanting to sell which has been my view all along...but my husband did not take my advice and prediction and now sees but really doesn't see... My advice would be to accept the fact that your DIL is going to be a mamas girl....and you will likely feel the chill more than once...do not try to have something that may never be there...you have to remember..she came to your family as an adult...she has no back story with you...your son may not be willing to speak in your defense.... I wish I knew then what I know today...life for me would be so much easier...now I have the stress of having a son, but not really...and having the stress of a controlling husband who chastises me for being hurt...insisting I deal with issues like he does..which is to repress....2 GS's I only see when there is a free spot somewhere....a truly unhappy existence at the moment....I am in the process of letting go as well

Ohhhhh how sweeeeeet!!! I'm thrilled for you .... you'll love being grandparents! Carol, you must go visit this summer, and how nice it would be to see a bit of Italy while visiting your granddaughter! Maybe you can get a better deal on the airline ticket with the bad economy now too.

Ain't that the truth Nonacook how times have changed!? When my hubby was overseas, he had to call collect. There were no prepaid calling cards then, nor internet & cell phones. I had to wait on snail mail for correspondance, including money. Communicating with the family must be so much better for the military now. Instant messaging, email, etc, would have been a real luxury.

Hats off to all the military! The families of those serving sacrifice a lot too. We have a lot to be proud of. Tyler is so handsome in his uniform. He makes me feel very proud of our military, what a great representative! Congrats Kirk and Carol! ~tenderlee

What a sweet little bundle of joy all wrapped up warm in Carol's beautiful quilt, looks so content! Handsome looking son. Is he a career man? If he was in Iraq 2 yrs & is still in. My DH was stationed in Italy & he loved it, learned the language & spent all his free time in people's homes, got lots of free meals but he was good at fixing things so I'm sure they got lots of repairs around their houses in return.He thought they were a very friendly people. Hope to see some updates as time goes by !!Would be so nice if Carol could go over, hope it works out!! Jan

Carol and I just read all of your kind words of encouragement in this post and the other post where we announced the birth of our granddaughter. Carol kept saying, "Ahhh, that was so nice of them to say." and "Oh, what nice people on the forum." I agree!

Yes, Sunnyca, Tyler is making a career of the Army. He loves it, and it has been so good for him.

I'm so hoping to get Carol over to Italy this summer. She's having a tough time not being able to see Hollie.

What great pictures! I can certainly see why you two are SO excited! Always so wonderful to welcome a little one into the world! Great picture of the quilt too...I'm sure they will treasure it always!

Your son is quite the handsome soldier too!

I hope that Carol gets to Italy....a year is WAY too long to wait to spoil that granddaughter!

Kirk and Carol,

Hollie Brielle is a pink lil doll!!!! Oh, I would be antsy too to get on that plane to Italy! (We're probably about 10 years or so out from that point in our lives) but it is in the closer future.... Tyler is hansome as ever. Mommy looks pretty good too considering she just gave birth! :-) Lets hope you can make Carols getaway to Italy happen sooner.

What a beautiful grandbaby. I know you're both very proud. And I'm sure it's hard not to be able to be with them now, but Its great you can get pictures so quickly.Tell your son from us Thank You for serving and being there to protect us. My dad was AF for 20 years. I don;t think alot of people apreciate all the sacrifices our young men make to help keep our country free for us.Blessings & good wishes to all yall..Judy

Awwwwwwwwwww! Hollie is so ADORABLE! What a little cutie! I really hope Carol is able to go see her this summer. What a treat that would be for her, your son and his wife and little Hollie!

Please thank your very handsome son for his brave service to our country and for sharing his sweet Hollie with the rest of us! And thank your daughter-in-law for being there at your son's side to offer her support and love so he is better able to serve his country. I can certainly understand why you and Carol are busting with pride!
